The likelyhood of Peavy
The results last night were outstanding(8 innings, 2 hits, 0 runs, 9 k i think) against a great Dodgers lineup, but just stuff wise that's the best I've seen Peavy in a couple years. His fastball was back where it used to be in the 92-94 range consistently.

And his success against the Dodgers is one the main reasons that I still want him here, should we face them again in the playoffs.

Yeah, that's a good reason to trade for a player.

Well, actually, the odds that the Cubs would face the Dodgers is good, so never mind my sarcasm.

I know it was mentioned in the MLB Notes thread, but the White Sox are reportedly hot on his heels.

Thoughts?

They're talking about this on the score and it's supposedly for 4 players? If the demands have dropped to that point, then the Cubs should be back on the phone.

Peavy reportedly has reservations about pitching in the AL and pitching for Guillen. I think he'll veto the trade, other teams including NL ones will be interested in him.

If what I am hearing is true, that the demands have dropped to 4 players, and have gone from Vitters and Marshall to Poreda and Richards, then I will again state that Towers fucked himself royally by trying to squeeze too much out of the Cubs.

i'm hearing the white sox are close.

here are my thoughts: peavy isn't going to help them and him going there isn't going to hurt us. they need hitting, we need hitting. our starting pitching has been strong, we don't need peavy.

Dan Patrick is reporting that the White Sox deal is done pending Peavy's approval.

Word is Adrian Gonzalez could be headed out next, possibly to the Mets.

i'd give them derrek lee and pay the majority of his contract plus whatever minor leaguers they want for adrian gonzalez.

Amazing. After all this, Peavy is going to be a fucking White Sock. This season continues to baffle me.

I would love to get in on the Gonzalez talks, btw.

I don't think he's going to approve it, personally. He clearly wants to be in the NL and the White Sox will not be the only interested team.

You're probably right. I think it would have to be the Angels for him to go to the AL. Or if it looked like the White Sox had a better shot at the division, then he might want to jump ship and go to a contender.

even though i think peavy is unnecessary, i still would like to make this move. i just hate the idea of kennneth williams one-upping us.

Honestly, we need to upgrade the offense somewhere. I'd hate to waste all of our trade chips and take on salary that would prevent us from making a better move.

I'm just not sure what that move might be.
