The likelyhood of Peavy
<!--quoteo(post=26857:date=Apr 4 2009, 01:35 PM:name=Gad)-->QUOTE (Gad @ Apr 4 2009, 01:35 PM) <{POST_SNAPBACK}><!--quotec-->They were talking about this on MLB Network the other night and they speculated that San Diego won't deal him right away because of the potential impact on ticket sales but that it's almost a foregone conclusion Peavy and Giles will be dealt at some point..

It's also been widely speculated by the various talking heads that Halladay will be dealt this summer as the Blue Jays feel the economic crunch. Personally I'd greatly prefer Halladay over Peavy...<!--QuoteEnd--><!--QuoteEEnd-->
I'd take either one of them, and wouldn't lose sleep over who we'd have to deal to get them, Vitters included. I wonder what the competition will be like for a guy like Halladay, as I doubt he'd be as choosy as Peavy.

Absolutely, he's much better and eats innings.

If our pitching sucks, which I seriously doubt, we will do something about it, Hendry always does.

Harden obviously isn't right, hasn't been since last August, but when we traded for him, did we expect much different? Z, Dempster and Lilly and going to be fine.

Dempster is still a question mark for me. I don't think he'll suck, but how good will he continue to be? Is he a #2? And Lilly always starts slow, but he's way behind so far in the Spring, so I just worry that he'll need another month to get right, and that's before his usual slow period. Then you've got Marshall who always struggles around the 5th inning or so, and we really don't know what we're gonna get in a full season.

I dunno, I guess I'm just having my usual pre-Opening Day freakout.

Plus it seems like we only play central division teams throughout April and May.
If Angelo had picked McClellin, I would have been expecting to hear by training camp that kid has stage 4 cancer, is actually 5'2" 142 lbs, is a chick who played in a 7 - 0 defensive scheme who only rotated in on downs which were 3 and 34 yds + so is not expecting to play a down in the NFL until the sex change is complete and she puts on another 100 lbs. + but this is Emery's first pick so he'll get a pass with a bit of questioning. - 1060Ivy

Sean Marshall and Aaron Heilman will be the 2 most important pitchers for the 2009 Cubs.

Even if Marshall and Heilman are both completely terrible, they can be replaced. If Zambrano and Marmol are terrible, we're fucked.

I just thought I would say it...Gammons On Baseball Tongiht said that the only reason the Cubs kept Guzman was because they expect him to be in the Peavy deal.

I heard that too. Sounded like a ridiculous jump to conclusions.

It certainly sounds made up, but no. I don't think he'd create it from whole cloth. He could be speculating, though.

Jump to conclusions is really a fun game to play.

Made, up? I wouldn't go that far. Maybe he heard a 2nd hand source speculate on the trade or something. But, yeah, Gammons hasn't been that reliable in recent years. Nothing against him because I enjoy watching him and reading his stuff, but he ends up wrong on most trade speculations.

I'm not so sure Peavy is worth a king's ransom anymore. Yeah -- he'd be nice to have with Harden's health/effectiveness in doubt, but I'm not so sure I want to sell the farm to get him.
