All I said was.
I think Pie will become a major league centerfielder. His bat does not at all play in left. He is going to require time to develop as a hitter in the bigs, the Cubs are not in a position to develop hitters at this time.<!--QuoteEnd--><!--QuoteEEnd-->
Right. It wasn't going to work here. If we had a World Series say in the last century or so, I might feel differently about these sort of moves. We need to win now. Pie wasn't going to help that this year, and odds are he wouldn't be next year either after rotting on our bench.

If we were paying a lot for Gathwright I would agree. But, I am afraid that a year of Pie getting limited ab's would have driven his value around the league down to nothing while he failed in a part time role.

I don't care about any of this anymore, because we just aren't going to get Peavy. I read that blurb this morning and decided not to post it. The press needs to let this die because the story doesn't have any legs.

I never even really "wanted" Peavy as we don't need him. He'd be nice to have, but you just need 4 starting pitchers in the playoffs. I agree that I'd rather have DeRo back than give all that up to get Peavy.

Yeah if we hadn't done the DeRosa deal, and kept everything else the same I'd be happy. Dero could play 2nd sometimes, play in RF for Bradley when he is owwies, Fontenot could get some time at 2B and as our primary lefty PH, Miles could be the utility man and backup SS we are looking to sign now.

Agree and agree. I have convinced myself that one of, or some combination of Marshall / Gaudin / Samardzija / Heilman is going to blow us away... and/or, Peavy will get injured in the first two months.

That was my only concern about Peavy, that he'd break down due to injuries and we'd be stuck with another unmovable contract. Don't get me wrong, I'd still love to have him, but at this point I just don't see it. At the same time, I have a feeling that our #4-5 spots are going to be our weaknesses this year, not any position player deficiencies, so I'm torn.

Dempster could have been a fluke.
Zambrano could get hurt or go crazy.
Harden could die.
Lilly could stay shitty throughout the year, instead of just at the beginning of the year.
Marshall/Samard/Heilman/Gaudin could prove why they sometimes relieve.
