All I said was.
I think Pie will become a major league centerfielder. His bat does not at all play in left. He is going to require time to develop as a hitter in the bigs, the Cubs are not in a position to develop hitters at this time.<!--QuoteEnd--><!--QuoteEEnd-->
Right. It wasn't going to work here. If we had a World Series say in the last century or so, I might feel differently about these sort of moves. We need to win now. Pie wasn't going to help that this year, and odds are he wouldn't be next year either after rotting on our bench.
<!--QuoteEnd--></div><!--QuoteEEnd-->
I generally agree; though I think I would have preferred to have Pie on the bench over Gathright. That's just me.
<!--QuoteEnd--></div><!--QuoteEEnd-->
If we were paying a lot for Gathwright I would agree. But, I am afraid that a year of Pie getting limited ab's would have driven his value around the league down to nothing while he failed in a part time role.
<!--QuoteEnd--></div><!--QuoteEEnd-->
Pie wasn't going to get the ABs to make any difference at all for this team, so I really didn't see the point of having him rotting on the bench, pinch-running and being a defensive replacement. It isn't fair to him, and he deserved to get a shot somewhere else where he could get the PT to prove himself. I still don't anticipate we'll be missing him anytime soon, and besides Gathright knows his role and will do fine. He''s just a role player and that's all you need in a 4th/5th OF. Pie doesn't do well in limited play anyway, and he never will.

Pfft... deserved a chance? Who gives a shit. If he could help THIS Cubs team, fuck his chance. Maybe that makes me heartless, but that's how I feel.
And in my opinion, Felix Pie is more valuable to the 2009 Cubs *on the field and the bench* than Joey Gathright. We'll never really know.

I don't think he is, seriously. I think Rok summed it up perfectly.

Besides, I think we're forgetting the fact that Lou didn't trust Pie, and I don't blame him. If anyone was truly going to be happy about watching our former #1 prospect riding the pines and losing value, then I'd like to meet that person.

To make things simple, let's just say Pie and Gathright are about the same player (obviously they aren't exactly the same, but as the 25th man, they would provide very similar things to the roster). So the option is to have just Pie, or to have Gathright (for a small amount of money) plus a couple other players. So going by the assumption that they are equal, Pie/Cedeno < Gathright/Heilman/Williamson.
The thing you need to remember is that all Cardinals fans and all White Sox fans are very bad people. It's a fact that has been scientifically proven beyond a shadow of a doubt. Being a Cubs fan is the only path to rightousness and piousness. Cardinal and White Sox fans exist to be the dark, diabolical forces that oppose us. They are the yin to our yang, the Joker to our Batman, the demon to our angel, the insurgence to our freedom, the oil to our water, the club to our baby seal. Their happiness occurs only in direct conflict with everything that is pure and good in this world.

We need to change the name of this thread.
There's nothing better than to realize that the good things about youth don't end with youth itself. It's a matter of realizing that life can be renewed every day you get out of bed without baggage. It's tough to get there, but it's better than the dark thoughts. -Lance

if you want to get pissed at hendry for not trading pie, get pissed because he didn't do it last year when pie had value. the cubs wouldn't trade him to baltimore for roberts, but now the orioles get him anyway for far less. THATS what you should be pissed about.

I think people are mostly pissed about:
1) the fact that a Peavy pick-up looks suddenly really slim.
2) In light of that, giving away Mark DeRosa seems unbelievably stupid.

hendry and lou want a more balanced lineup. why is this so hard to grasp? derosa was the only righthanded hitter that had value/no no-trade clause/no burdensome contract. THATS why he was traded. basically they exchanged derosa for bradley.

Randy Bush says they've had no talks with SD since around the winter meetings and doesn't anticipate anymore.

Besides having an obscene name, I hate that Randy Bush is our 2nd in command.
But hey, what can you do?
