i'll take a possible injury risk with peavy over a guaranteed injury risk with sheets. if the peavy thing falls through, i'd give sheets a shot, but only for one year.

I'm sort of in that boat too. My only point was that it seems a lot of people are gung-ho to give up a lot of our tradeable commodities (if not all of them) on a guy who has a couple of red flags that are going largely undiscussed.

I brought up those points a lot for awhile, but I would still do the rumored deals in a heartbeat. I think he might be our 3rd or 4th most effective starter, but that's still very, very good. If not, it was worth the gamble and I feel better about his chances of staying healthy than I do of any of these prospects doing anything in the bigs.

I don't think they will, but there's no reason whatsoever why they <i>can't</i>.

They pretty much had the division locked up when we came into the month of September, barring a Mets-like collapse. We clinched the division on September 20th, locked up home field on September 22nd.

Zambrano maybe had his worst season as a Cub(excluding the few games he pitched as a rookie).

Our #3 and #4 hitters each had their worst full seasons as Cubs.

Fukudome was pure shit after the first couple months and I think we'll see at least a little bit of improvement from him.

Marmol was an absolute mess for a month's stretch. I mean everybody's going to have bad stretches, but it was just beyond bad and I think he finally showed some confidence in his fastball as the season went on.

The division should be worse, maybe quite a bit. Really it appears the NL as a whole could be worse.

What if Milton Bradley can play 120 games? What if we get Peavy?

There's no doubt all of those things could continue, or maybe the division is better than I expect and Bradley tears his ACL on opening day. However, they definitely <b>can </b>win even more than 97 games.

And putting Sheets' attitude aside, he's just hurt too much. I just don't know about handing him over 8 million dollars. There's no doubt he's a great talent, but when we already have Harden, I don't really like having another major liability in the rotation.

On Hendry's terrible Pierre trade I will always believe that if Hendry were in charge then instead of McPhail, Furcal would have been signed. Hendry has been pretty much amazing since McPhail was let go.


Wigginton is an interesting name that I had not thought of at all before. I hope that Hendry has some money set aside for some bargain shopping, because it appears that there are probably going to be some pretty decent values available as spring training approaches.

I'm never going to forget those 1 or 2 games down the stretch last year when the Brewers' season hung in the balance - they needed him to do something for them (just show up even), and he totally didn't come through. Maybe he had some serious injury, maybe not... but Curt Schilling and bleeding ankle he is not. I want players that are going to sack up at the relevant moments.

BINGO. You don't take yourself out there unless you're really, really hurting, and all indications were it was a minor groin injury in the game at Milwaukee. In April, sure. It was a huge game though down the stretch where the team depended on him. Gut it out. It was an embarrassment to his team and fans.

Needless to say, if we had Sheets (or Peavy) on the staff, and we went into October with everyone healthy, and Harden/Sheets firing on all cylinders, it'd be pretty imposing for another team go go up against.
