He was pretty mediocre, but yeah, that's what I was thinking with regard to Miles too. I think he's a smart enough player who possibly could have figured it out as a veteran. I also have a feeling he'll put up pretty solid numbers for the next 2 seasons. DeRosa is a superior hitter, but I think Miles will be fine in his own right.

DeRosa at least had the frame that he could potentially hit some home runs. Miles looks like a sickly, brunette version of Ace. He'll never develop any power, ever. He's a slap-hitter. He's Juan Pierre without the speed.

anyone have a good shot of Z's dirty sanchez?

He doesn't look that terribly skinny to me. I mean, he's certainly not huge, nor as big as DeRo, but not skinny.

He's 5'8", 170. He'll never be able to hit more than 3 or 4 homers a year.

I don't disagree with what he'll hit for home runs. But Baseball-Reference has him at 170, CBS Sports has him at 180, Yahoo has him at 185 and Cubs.com has him at 185. Looking at him, I'm going with 185.

Well, my point was/is that DeRosa at least had the frame to hit for power before he came to the Cubs. I wasn't surprised that he was able to hit 15+ homers a season. If Miles hits for any kind of power at all, I'll be shocked.

we don't need him to hit for power. we have plenty of guys that can do that. what if he puts up a similar year to the riot's last year? .300 avg and a decent obp? i don't think that's far fetched at all.

Exactly. We're going to lead the league in runs scored, that's all that matters.

When you're operating on a budget, which the Cubs are, it's foolish to waste $4M dollars on a guy like Miles. He's a dime a dozen.

true enough but that doesn't mean he can't/won't contribute.

I'll be pleasantly surprised if he tops a .350 OBP. That's all I would want out of him really, but I'm not too optimistic about that.
