Totally yes to this.

In other words, exactly like a Daryl Ward-type lefty bat off the bench.

Yep.
If Angelo had picked McClellin, I would have been expecting to hear by training camp that kid has stage 4 cancer, is actually 5'2" 142 lbs, is a chick who played in a 7 - 0 defensive scheme who only rotated in on downs which were 3 and 34 yds + so is not expecting to play a down in the NFL until the sex change is complete and she puts on another 100 lbs. + but this is Emery's first pick so he'll get a pass with a bit of questioning. - 1060Ivy

We, literally, have no left handed reliever in our minor league system that is ready to step up. A quick look at the rosters/stats shows that we're either going to have to live with Cotts as our only lefty or trade for someone. Unless a guy starts really having a great season, there's no one in AAA/AA/A+ ready.
I got nothin'.

Exactly. What about him makes you think he's better than any of the guys currently here that he would take their roster spot? I don't think he's ready. He has 4 innings pitched and while he hasn't given up a run, he's given up 5 hits and only struck out 2. Not making me think he's ready yet.

My desire to see Waddell has less to do with my confidence in him and more to do with my hatred of Cotts.

If Cotts had a pretty good ST, I wonder why he can't throw the ball over the plate now?
There's nothing better than to realize that the good things about youth don't end with youth itself. It's a matter of realizing that life can be renewed every day you get out of bed without baggage. It's tough to get there, but it's better than the dark thoughts. -Lance

If Cotts is sucking in a month still, he won't be on the team, and we'll be making a trade. A team like the Nationals for example might have a lefty reliever and they'd take a top-40 prospect for that player in a heartbeat. Not worried about this.

He can get a lefty out which is what Lou wants.

I don't think we can afford to bury Cotts, Vizcaino and Patton for a month. One of them is going to have to be consistently better, or one will be gone.

Cotts' spring wasn't so great. Like so many pitchers, he just did enough to not lose a job. He really wasn't that impressive, and doesn't deserve the benefit of the doubt given his resume. He's sucked far longer than he ever was good.

Yeah like I mentioned before Cotts had a 6+ ERA and a horrid whip from the end of July on last year and now he can't get anyone out, he has no business being on a MLB roster.
As for Vizcaino, I think he has been fine, he has only had 3 appearances I think, but he hasn't given up anything. I wish Lou would use him a little more rather than running Cotts out there so often and using Heilman and Marmol every single game.

Totally agree. I can't believe Cotts is going to be on this team much longer if he can't throw strikes. The only reason I can fathom of why he is still here is that we really don't have anyone to bring up from the minors. We may be forced to put Marshall back in the pen before to long.

2 reasons Cotts is still on the team:
1. No really viable lefties to call up
2. Out of options
This is not some silly theory that's unsupported and deserves being mocked by photos of Xena.

If he does not start throwing strikes I don't even think him being out of options is a reason for him to still be here.
