Nats or Reds, though I think we'll be eating some of his salary for either of those to happen.

We're eating all as of now, so that's not that big of a deal.
BTW, the personnel movement in the pen has been completely botched, thus far.

I never thought I'd be upset on the day that Vizcaino would be DFA'd, but Hendry found a way to piss me off. Good times.

I admire that, but Lou is partly to blame for a) wanting Bradley in the first place, and B ) trotting him out there when he's less than 100%.

seriously? The Cubs DFA's a guy with less than 4 innings pitched, who virtually the entire board was praying would be cut in spring training, and you are left speechless?
You broads are something else, I tell ya.

I don't want to put words in anyone's mouth, but I think Butcher will bring this back to the DeRosa deal. I don't believe he's that concerned about losing Vizcaino, so much as it runs in the face of "saving money by dealing DeRosa".
I got nothin'.

If we were going to DFA him two weeks into the season for no apparent reason, why not just keep Gaudin, who had more upside, instead?

Cubs designate Vizcaino for assignment
April 23, 2009, 8:47 AM
By: Bruce Levine
The Cubs designated right-handed pitcher Luis Vizcaino for assignment. The Cubs were trying to trade Vizcaino before bringing up Jeff Samardzija from Triple-A Iowa.
General manager Jim Hendry tried to be creative with other teams, including the Washington Nationals, and tried to save some money before having to release Vizcaino.
It will take 72 hours for Vizcaino to go through waivers, and the Cubs will have seven days to either release him or trade him.
Vizcaino is making over $3 million. His contract was initially taken on due to the fact the team had to trade right-handed pitcher Jason Marquis in order to have enough money to sign free agent Milton Bradley. Mark DeRosa's money also was part of the equation in signing Bradley to a three-year contract.

Vizcaino's contract is a sunk cost. If improving the pen can be done by getting rid of a shitty pitcher than it should be done regardless of how much money he is paid. I question why Cotts is on the roster, but I do think we need a left hander and Vizcaino was a time bomb waiting to explode. Thankfully we get rid of him so he can blow up another team's bullpen.
THIS MOVE MAKES SENSE. The Cubs are better for it. At the end of the day we saved the $6 million difference between Marquis and Vizcaino's contracts.

The move may make sense, but how we arrived at this point doesn't. If they didn't think much of Vizcaino, and never intended to carry him thru the season, he never should have made the roster out of spring training in the first place.

Brenly just said how it wasn't widely reported, but Vizcaino's tardiness had become an issue. Makes a little more sense. That shit will drive Lou nuts.
