<!--quoteo-->QUOTE <!--quotec-->Bill Corgan announced Friday (March 20) that he was heading into the studio to record a new Smashing Pumpkins album without any of his original bandmates. Jimmy Chamberlin, the group's original drummer and the only Pumpkin to play with the band on its recent 20th anniversary "reunion" tour, "has left the group" according to a terse statement released on the band's website.

The statement said, "The SMASHING PUMPKINS' guitarist, singer, songwriter and founding member Billy Corgan has announced that drummer Jimmy Chamberlin has left the group. Chamberlin joined the band Corgan founded in Chicago in 1988 and played on all their albums except Adore (1998). Corgan will continue to write and record as SMASHING PUMPKINS with plans to head into the studio this spring."

The band showed signs of tension at its most recent shows, with Corgan brutally berating the audience and individual fans from the stage. "Yes, the circus is back on the road," Corgan told a crowd in New York in November. "Just when you thought drama was so '90<!--QuoteEnd--><!--QuoteEEnd-->

i think i've had enough of billy...nothing he's done musically has blown me away since Melon Collie and his act has grown very tiresome.

If Jimmy's done, I'm done.

I agree.
If Angelo had picked McClellin, I would have been expecting to hear by training camp that kid has stage 4 cancer, is actually 5'2" 142 lbs, is a chick who played in a 7 - 0 defensive scheme who only rotated in on downs which were 3 and 34 yds + so is not expecting to play a down in the NFL until the sex change is complete and she puts on another 100 lbs. + but this is Emery's first pick so he'll get a pass with a bit of questioning. - 1060Ivy

this was kinda funny.
for those that care - billy's in the studio recording 5 demos. my guess is it'll just be owata, song for a son, 99 floors, the march hare and as rome burns but we'll see. he says they'll "sound like spring".

<!--quoteo-->QUOTE <!--quotec-->So now the Smashing Pumpkins need a drummer. And they're going the old-fashioned route to find one: Holding auditions! This means you could be a Smashing Pumpkin!

According to a press release, the Pumpkins will hold auditions for new drummers on April 10 in L.A.: "They should send their background info, photos and performance web links via email only to: pumpkinsdrummer@gmail.com." The floodgates are open!<!--QuoteEnd--><!--QuoteEEnd-->

Why do you think that happens? Like, why do artists generally seem to eventually "lose" it?

i think they run out of ideas. look at the foo fighters, they've been making the same album for years. i think that with the right producer, they could do something fresh.

having said that, the pumpkins last album was really really good.

yeah, especially when the band is fueled by 1 guys songwriting ability...there's only so much you can produce out of thin air.

if you have collaborative band like I imagine bands like radiohead to be where all members are contributing to the whole, it's much easier to keep things fresh i think.
