Minor League Roundup
Maybe scouts don't like them as much as we do, but damn: we've got a lot of prospects really putting up some great numbers.

About time for Vitters. Very excited to see what Cashner does given that he's still not very stretched out.

Ascanio started for Iowa last night. In 4 IP he had 7K, 2BB, 2H and no runs. Pretty nice outing.

For Tennessee, Papelbon started again and threw 5 scoreless, including 3 K, 3 BB, and 3 H. Colvin is batting. Colvin wen 2 fo 3 and is batting .310. Tenn played Hunstville. Huntsville started Mark Holliman who is 7-2 this season. He pitched 5.2 innings of 1 run ball. .

At Daytona, Vitters went 1 for 4 and is batting .143 in only 2 games.

Why is Colvin not at Iowa yet?

Btw, Kid's been out this week, hence no roundup.

The only thing that scares me with Vitters is that in 269 plate appearances, he had 7 walks. This is a guy that doesn't have a whole lot of discipline. Hopefully he can learn some.

Absolutely. And I don't want to fall into the same excuses people made early on for Colvin ("well, he's hitting .350, so why should he be taking pitches"). At the same time, IIRC, Vitters did not strike out a ton to go along with those 7 walks. There's a magical ratio that is little talked about that I've read is the best predictor of major league success for a hitter: extra base hits to strikeouts.

Seems strange, but if a player has a 1:1 ratio in that (it's really rare), he's very likely to become a good major league hitter. Vitters wasn't quite there, but he was close-ish.
