Dunn vs. Bradley (so far)
<!--quoteo(post=46071:date=Jun 25 2009, 01:26 PM:name=CFOrfan)-->QUOTE (CFOrfan @ Jun 25 2009, 01:26 PM) <{POST_SNAPBACK}><!--quotec--><!--quoteo(post=46062:date=Jun 25 2009, 11:02 AM:name=Butcher)--><div class='quotetop'>QUOTE (Butcher @ Jun 25 2009, 11:02 AM) <{POST_SNAPBACK}><!--quotec--><!--quoteo(post=33675:date=Apr 28 2009, 11:39 AM:name=Butcher)--><div class='quotetop'>QUOTE (Butcher @ Apr 28 2009, 11:39 AM) <{POST_SNAPBACK}><!--quotec-->Adam Dunn -- .311/.475/.607/1.082

Here's something that's kind of interesting. Dunn had as many homers and RBI 18 games into the season as Bradley has now.

Let's see how they stack up today:

Dunn -- .266/.402/.529
18 HR, 50 RBI

Bradley -- .241/.360/.386
5 HR, 16 RBI

Oh...and if you hate Adam Dunn discussions, feel free to ignore this post instead of having a fit and complaining about all of the Adam Dunn talk.

Oh...and I really despise Bradley now. I was willing to give him some leeway for a while, but I'm all the way into the hate camp now.
<!--QuoteEnd--></div><!--QuoteEEnd-->
Adam Dunn also has about 100 more PA than Bradley. Now, that doesn't mean Bradley should have 13 more HR and 20 some more RBI, but comparing the two players is kind of dumb because a) they are 2 different players. Dunn should havebetter power numbers because he is the only decent player in that lineup and B ) if Dunn were a cub he would be hitting .220 right now. Easily.
<!--QuoteEnd--></div><!--QuoteEEnd-->

So let me get this straight. You think we should penalize Dunn cause he plays every day? I think his point was that Bradley hasn't even been in the lineup. And do you think by being the only decent player in a lineup you get better or worse pitches to hit?
Reply
Ok, I'm giving in. I'd rather have Dunn than Bradley too, and it isn't even close. Fuck Bradley.

No, I think it is unfair to compare the players. And while Dunn will get less pitches to see, he also is going to be getting a majority of the RBIs

It's a silly argument, unless you are trying to prove that Dunn had a better April--June 2009, which is not arguable. Bradley is currently hitting 80 points BELOW his career OPS, and Dunn is currently hitting 30 points ABOVE his. If this is what you expected when the 2 were signed, then congrats, and perhaps you should be running a team. If you expect this will be the case for the remainder of both their contracts, then I guess it was a bad deal.

However, I expect Bradley to get much better, and Dunn to get somewhat worse.

Yeah, I seriously doubt that Bradley is still hitting this poorly once the fall rolls around. I still think that he'll be better over the long run than if we signed Dunn.

I think for all this talk about Bradley having a tough mental edge...he's shown quite the opposite. He doesn't have the stones to succeed as a Cub and I don't expect his numbers to come anywhere close to what we were hoping for from him.

IRMC Dunn's deal is only two years and we're on the hook for Bradley for three. So you have to weigh that into the equation. Also, are you better off in the long run with a guy in Dunn who's going to play every day or a buy like Bradley who will constantly be on the DL/Suspended.

And for what it's worth the ever-durable Milton Bradley is sitting again today. I guess two consecutive games played is his limit.

Butch, why are you now officially hating Bradley when he appears to have righted the ship and is actually hitting decent?<!--QuoteEnd--><!--QuoteEEnd-->

i hate adam dunn.

i defy anyone here to say with a straight face that they thought bradley was gonna have 16 rbi this late in june. we were all aware of the risks in signing bradley, but no one thought we'd be hating him because he blows. it's one thing to say we should have signed dunn, but it's another to say "see i told you bradley wasn't gonna hit." the fact is, bradley has pklayed more than we thought he was, he's just not played well. who knew?

and in the end, the addition of dunn maybe gets us a win or two, but it doesn't make soriano hit better, it doesn't make fontenot hit better, it doesn't make sparkle hit better, it doesn't make soto hit better, and it doesn't bring ramirez back from the dead. adam dunn makes little if any impact on this team and that's assuming he even performs well here. wouldN'T IT BE COMPLETELY POSSIBLE IF DUNN CAME HERE AND SHIT THE BED LIKE BRADLEY?

I'm sorry, i have fat fingers and sometimes i hit the caps button on accident. i didn't mean to yell.

I can say I thought: "Bradley is not going to drive in runs. He's not a middle of the order hitter." In his best year he only drove in 77 and hit 22 HRs, and that's down in Texas where careers go to be made.
