tom brunansky and troy glaus are on that list. maris was a three year wonder. strawberry was vastly overrated.

Brunansky and Glaus are/were very good players...definitely MUCH better than decent or average. And they're the two worst players of the 10 people on the list. The other 8 were all great stars.
Strawberry was not remotely overrated. He was an absolute superstar until he became a hard-core cocaine addict, mid-career.
Maris won 2 MVP awards, won rings with two different organizations, and broke the greatest record in sports. There have been worse careers.

Aside from Bonds, the rest of those players weren't even the best players on their own team either, just sayin'.

i was going to argue your point but i decided that this is the last time i ever talk about adam dunn again. it's tiresome and pointless and i'm convinced that i'm right and nothing is ever going to change that so i'm done. it's over. adam is the most overrated player since daryl strawberry. thats my final word.

Bench certainly was in 1970 and 1972.
However, teammate Pete Rose won the NL '73 MVP, and Joe Morgan won it in '74 and '75, and George Foster won it in '77.
It'd be tough to argue that Bench was the best player on his team in those years, when 3 different teammates were considered the best player in the whole league.
The point is this: it doesn't mean jack-shit whether or not you happen to be "the best player on your team."

johnny bench was the best player on his team every year. he wasn't just an offensive force, he was possibly the greatest defensive catcher of all time. no bench, no 4 pennants.
daryl strawberry led the league in home runs once, slugging once, ops once, and ops+ once....all in the same year. he never led the league in anything else ever, except maybe strike outs. he was overrated.

My point is that they weren't the best players on their own team. In fact, some of those guys played on teams where they weren;t in the top 5 on their team. Very few of those listed were make or break type players, they were good, nice role players, not much more.

Strawberry first 9 years:
Rookie-of-the-year. 9 straight All-star teams. World championship. Nine-year average OPS+ of 144. Top ten in MVP 4 times.
That is not an average player. That is not an overrated player. That is a superstar.
From that point on, he started averaging about 35 games per year, and hitting about .140.
Gee, ya think that there Kurtis Blow might've had something to do with it?

It was 8 All-Star teams, not 9. Just so you know.
The thing you need to remember is that all Cardinals fans and all White Sox fans are very bad people. It's a fact that has been scientifically proven beyond a shadow of a doubt. Being a Cubs fan is the only path to rightousness and piousness. Cardinal and White Sox fans exist to be the dark, diabolical forces that oppose us. They are the yin to our yang, the Joker to our Batman, the demon to our angel, the insurgence to our freedom, the oil to our water, the club to our baby seal. Their happiness occurs only in direct conflict with everything that is pure and good in this world.

Yes, good point. Eight-time all-stars are "good, nice role players, not much more," as Ruby states.

Yessir, solid point. Six of the ten guys won MVP awards. Two of them are in the Hall of Fame. One of them is in the "greatest player of all-time" argument.
Yessir, role players.
