There is very little chance that the Brewers starters keep up at this pace. They're on a tear, and can sure hit the ball, but their defense is suspect and their pitching will come back to earth.

I think their pitching is a lot better than most people think.

And if they all pitched for the Cubs, you would be saying they all suck.

The Brewers offense can keep them in games. their pitching will get worse. Maybe not worse enough to screw them, but they won't stay at this level.
<!--QuoteEnd--></div><!--QuoteEEnd-->
I didn't say they are great pitchers -- but they're good enough coupled with the Brewers' offense to make them a pretty good team and certainly "for real" -- which was my original statement.

Looper, Parra and Suppan are averaging barely 5 IP per start. Eventually that's gonna catch up to them. Only Gallardo and Bush have been eating up innings. Their pen is much improved from last year, but sooner or later, their lack of rotation depth will spill over to the pen.

i didn't sweat the brewers last year and i certainly won't sweat them this year. the only team capable of knocking the cubs out of the playoffs is the cubs.

and i said should, not would.

Just sayin'.

My point was that they are for real. They were for real last year when you didn't sweat them. So maybe they're for real this year as you aren't sweating them.

Ned Yost not managing them this year has probably helped quite a bit.

They were for real with the best pitcher on the planet for half the season and another one that Gallardo won't top in production.

And the Cards have been struggling, in large part because they've been without Ludwick, Ankiel, and Carpenter. I'm not worried about either team, but I still think the Cardinals have the better chance to be a legitimate threat to us.

Their offense is much better, though -- they're showing a lot more patience at the plate and actually taking walks (so far, their offense looks a lot like ours did last year). They have a solid bullpen, and Ned Yost is no longer at the helm. They could match their win total from last season and it wouldn't surprise me at all.

i didn't sweat them last year and when it was over, there was no need to. i don't sweat them this year, and when it's over, there will be no need to. i don't care how many games they won in the playoffs. it's irrelevant.

Their offense has been playing better, and they just lost a key part of that with Weeks going down for the year.

They've been MUCH more patient, but will it really continue?

Braun had a .335 obp last year, .451 this year.

The 36-year-old Cameron has a .390 obp. It was .331 last year, .328 the year before. He only has 2 more strikeouts than walks so far. He's had twice as many strikeouts as walks for pretty much his whole career, I doubt he's all of a sudden changed his approach.

Prince Fielder is at .431. .372 last year.

Corey Hart had 27 walks last year in 657 plate appearances. He has 19 now in 166.

Yes, their team seems to be preaching it more and they could all be working harder to be patient and get on base, but I doubt it continues at anywhere near this rate.

I'm to the point where I don't care about our competition. I don't want to focus on other teams because it's out of our control unless we're talking head-to-head play. All I'm concerned about is that we could have a lot of key players with career worst years or even more troubling, guys who will never come close to their 2008 production, mainly Bradley, Fontenot and Soto. Hell, Theriot is pissing me off too by constantly swinging for the fences. I think our pitching will get better. It's our offense that troubles me.
