Not sure, but both the Sox and Cards had atrocious losing streaks in 2005 and 2006 and we all know what followed. I'm not saying history will repeat itself, but it isn't out of the question.

The '06 Cards only won 83 games, so I'm sure they had several lengthy losing streaks peppered throughout that season. 83 wins isn't going to get us into the playoffs this year, I'm afraid.

We really picked the wrong year to suck so badly. 84 games would've won the Central and we couldn't even manage 70 wins.

The point is that regardless of the circumstances, a long losing streak early in a season does not automatically mean a team has no chance at the playoffs. Also, we can't assume that a certain number of wins will be enough to get in. We have no idea how our competition will perform for the remainder of the season. Maybe they have some long losing streaks in them too.

All I'm saying is that as down as we all are on the team, and I admit I'm very close to giving up, it's too early to wave the white flag. We were something like 9 games under .500 at one point in 2007, and we were able to salvage the season. The Brewers looked unstoppable then as well. Other teams were playing better ball than us. We dealt with injuries, dugout fights, Lou looking clueless and indifferent. Let's just see how things play out. We have 119 games left.

the fact of the matter is that if all these guys that are slumping start hitting at the same time and the pitching holds up and our injured players get healthy, we could easily win 8 straight. not saying it will happen, or that i think it will happen, but it could. it could my friends. it really really could.
