I am at fault. Blame me. - wcplummer - 05-24-2009

So I got tickets to the game on tuesday against the Cardinals. As I sit there with a stray cubs fan or two, I feel confident about our chances. Lilly gives up a run in the bottom of the 1st....and then it happens. As the words come out of my mouth I had a funny felling. "1 run won't win this game. The cubs offense is too good to get beat by this douchebag." 6 games later the baseball gods are still punishing me. The cardinal fans that I was with have sent text everyday since then. I hate myself sometimes. I know better than to say anything, just shut up and cheer.

I know how that feels....but how could you?

Plummer, it isn't your fault...the Cubs just fucking suck right now. Don't be so hard on yourself.

I blame Alfonso Soriano and Ryan Theriot, mainly.

Clearly this is all Micah Hoffpauir's fault.

Yep. Theriot worries the hell out of me always swinging for the fences, and Alf picked a perfect time to perform one of his signature disappearing acts. We just aren't going to muster much offense on a consistent basis if we have 4-5 guys slumping and if we're without a true cleanup hitter for most of the season. I think when Aramis comes back, we're in for a disappointment, because we can't expect him to be himself right out of the gate. I'm finding it hard to imagine this team being an above .500 team deep into the season playing such stupid baseball and having zero ability to manufacture rune. Our patience at the plate has dried up. This reminds me a lot of what happened in 2006, but at least we have stronger pitching.

I wrote about just how bad the road trip was, with some awful, awful stats(like reaching 3rd base just 11 times, so we would've scored less than 2 runs per game if you just had to get there to score a run). The Worst Road Trip In Cubs History Is Finally Over

I am at fault. Blame me. - wcplummer - 05-25-2009

I keep watching and waiting for the flood gates to open and put up about 4-5 rubs in a single inning and putting up about 8 -10 in a game. My next fear is the pitching staff falls apart and gives up more than we can score and the struggles continue.

So, I elected to watch Godfather II tonight on HD Movie Net instead of the game...I was calm, enjoying the movie, giving my liver a break. Then I foolishly turned to the game to watch the 8th and 9th innings. I have a problem.

8 games....has a team ever lost 8 games in a row and still made the playoffs?

I'm pretty sure the Phillies lost 6 in a row last season and they did pretty well. Didn't the Dodgers go on a big skid last year, too? That was pre-Manny, though...

Not sure, but both the Sox and Cards had atrocious losing streaks in 2005 and 2006 and we all know what followed. I'm not saying history will repeat itself, but it isn't out of the question.
