Maybe we can convert him to the team mascot. He does kind of look like Ronny Woo Woo and he's just as annoying. I wish Lou had the balls to bench him becasue we'd be better off with Jake Fox in LF.

Whoever is our GM in the offseason needs to seriously consider unloading Soriano's contract onto whatever team will have him. For the sake of the future, and even if it costs us a ton of money, you can't count on this guy for anything resembling consistency, and he needs to be on another team, preferably in the AL.

I don't think it would be anywhere near 90%. We may get stuck with him, but there are still a ton of people in MLB who are fooled by Soriano and would want him at the right cost.

My 90% was an exaggeration, but I sincerely believe we'd have to pick up 75% or more. Soriano will earn $18 M per year through 2014. So essentially Soriano now has a 5 yr / $90 M deal. At a minimum I think we'd have to pick up $70 M of that which is 77%. I cannot think of anyone that would even be interested now with the season he's had. Our only hope is that he start of hot next year and we can trade him before he tanks.

50-60% sounds more reasonable to me, but whatever, it would still have to be a massive chunk. The bottom line is, would you be saving anything by cutting your losses and reducing your liability by 40-50% ? Possibly, but then it depends on who we'd have to replace him with and how much he would cost.

If I were a GM I would not sign Soriano to a 5 yr / 20 M deal, much less a 5 yr / 45 M deal. Would you? Can you think of a GM that would? I cannot especially in this market. $9 million per year will buy a hell of a lot, and Soriano blows. I think you are vastly overvaluing Soriano.

A small market team might want him if they believe he will fill seats. Never underestimate the stupidity of some GMs.
