Just out of curiosity, because our entire offseason was based on handedness, I looked to see which potential playoff teams (I only looked at current division leaders) have the most balance in their lineup this season.
It's the Yankees, by far. I don't know if it truly means anything (as far as postseason success), but they have 4 switch-hitters and 3 lefties in their lineup.
Detroit has the least balanced lineup (one lefty, no switch-hitters).
LAA -- 5 R, 1 L, 3 S
PHI -- 3 R, 3 L, 2 S
STL -- 6 R, 2 L
LAD -- 4 R, 2 L, 2 S
That Yankees lineup is just ridiculous, by the way. They could have all 9 hitters hit 20 homers by the end of the season (Cabrera is bringing up the rear with 12 -- he'd have to go on a tear). 1-8 are pretty much there already (Jeter is on 17). As a team, they are hitting .283/.362/.481. How ridiculous is that?
To put that into perspective, our team his hitting .253/.328/.412. I know -- the DH bumps theirs up, but not by that much. Also, the Yanks' lineup OPS+ is 120. We have two hitters in our lineup with an OPS+ equal to or better than that (Lee and Ramirez).
