Soriano is awful

I'm so tired of his act. I have never seen him make play look easy. I'm so happy we have him signed until he's 43.

what i don't get is that the year before we signed him, he was a superstar, a 40/40 guy. how is it that he's underacheived every year we've had him? i know he's had injuries, i get that, but why is it that prior to coming here, he was never on the DL a single time? he's been good for us, but not great. not even close to what he was before he came here.

2007 - 33 hr 70 rbi .299/.337/.560
2008 - 29 hr 75 rbi .280/.344/.532

And we're really complaining about Soriano of all players? Is he really the biggest issue we have? Yes, he's sucked for about a month now, but he's done that every season of his career. That's Soriano. When he's hot, he'll carry the team. When he's cold, he's ice cold.
I got nothin'.

Soriano is what he is, it's tough for me to complain about him too much. The thing for me is, he was given a contract as if he was a superstar, but he isn't a superstar, just a very good player that got too big of a contract. Blame Hendry.

I love Soriano. Other than Ramirez, he's my favorite Cub.

And if he doesn't suffer his first 2 injuries of his career, he'd be right about there the past 2 seasons also.

It all comes down to injuries. It isn't uncommon for a player to start breaking down a little in his early 30s. And Soriano's always been a streaky player. Get used to it, because that's what he is. He was talked about as a superstar because he had 30/30 and 40/40 potential every season. Other than that, his stats are pretty pedestrian, and he was never known as a good fielder at any position. Playing for the Yankees always magnifies a player's notoriety as well. There's no doubt that Hendry bid against himself and overpaid for Soriano, but he's hardly the main problem for this team. I can think of 3-4 other deficiencies that rank way ahead of him.

Exactly. He's not really playing worse. The last 2 years he was as good or better than all but one year of his career. When he gets hot, he's the best hitter on the planet not named Albert Pujols. He just happened to get hot for a bit longer in his season in Washington. He's still on pace to hit over 40 homers this year. Right now he has little chance up there, but he's due to have a major hot streak on the way where he hits .400 and has 5 homers in a 1-2 week span. It's what he always does, have we really not learned that yet?

Look at 2007 with us...

April: .270(20-74), 0 HR, 1 RBI, .700 OPS

June: .336(41-122), 11 HR, 1.076 OPS

July: .265(30-113), 3 HR, .701 OPS

September: .320(39-122), 14 HR, 1.108 OPS

2008...

April: .192(10-52), 2 HR, .577 OPS

May: .345(40-116), 10 HR, 1.058 OPS

This year...

April: .284(25-88), 7 HR, .955 OPS

May: .216(24-111), 5 HR, .657 OPS

He gets on hot streaks unlike anybody in baseball, and it's going to happen again soon, if pretty much every season of his career in an indication. Even in his amazing 2006, he had months where he hit .204 and .207.

Guys, I think Soriano is injured. He has always been a terrible fielding left fielder but the way he is going after balls these past few days makes me believe he can not stretch down like he can normally. While it looks like he is disinterested in making plays, it really looks like he physically can't. Think he feels he needs to be in the lineup since we have a superstar out already? I wish we could sit him about 3 or 4 days. and why can't we? Fox or Hoff would be just as goofy in left as Soriano is.

Then he should say, "Lou, I don't want to sit because I know I can still provide for this team. But don't put me and leadoff--because I definitely can't do shit up there."
