I keep checking here and hoping to see a thread that says, "Piniella Quits", "Piniella Fired", "Hendry Resigns", "Milton Bradley contract voided".--anything.

I'd be surprised if the team eats Lou's remaining salary (they excecised a 4mm option on him for next year.

I agree with this, although I wouldn't be terribly surprised if Lou retires at the end of the season.

I don't see him giving up 4mm. Maybe a buyout would be mutually agreeable?

I really don't think the manager makes that big of a deal. Would my ideal lineups be any different, really than his? Maybe but not by much. Would your pullpen roles be any different? Maybe, but not that much. I have no problem firing him if it sends this team on a Rockies-Like string of victories. But I didn't see the bats suddenly come to life when the hitting coach was fired so I tend to think this team doesn't give a shit. And thats the problem you get when you have guys who make a lot of money, you lose that hunger. I don't know. I'm really just rambling on at this point. You know what I like. Margaritas. Yeah, they are tasty.

Yea but firing a manager sometimes has that effect on a team that can't be explained.
The 2003 Red Sox lose that tight ALCS to the Yankees. What did they do? They fired Grady Little. What happened in 2004? They won it all.
The 2003 Florida Marlins fired Jeff Torborg and installed Jeff McKeon. We all know what happened after that.
Last year the Brewers had no shame in firing their manager, when they started to falter a bit at the end of the season. They ended up winning the Wild Card.
I'm sure there are other examples...

I feel like something similar happened with the Astros recently, but I don't feel like looking it up.

In 2004 they fired Jimy Williams after being at about .500 during the break. They brought in Phil Garner and made that huge deal for Beltran. They ended up losing to StL in 7 in the NLCS. They went to the World Series in 05 after that unbelievable tear.

Yes. And who can forget that magical 1991 season when firing Don Zimmer and replacing him with spunky Jim Essian, and his 59-63 record led to our first championship since....
1986 when Gene Micheal took over for a lethargic Cubs squad, energizing the team to a thrilling 46-56 clip. Man, it seemed like we won nearly every other game that year once Gene took over.
Needless to say, while you can point to examples of changing managers that led to triumph, there are many more that ended up less successful. I might also add, your Brewers example is actually kind of a bad one. The Brewers fired Yost, then proceeded to go a rather pedestrian 7-5 to win the wild card. They wouldn't have even done that, had the Mets, under Jerry Manuel, who replaced Willie Randolph mid season, not gone 3-6 during the last week and a half of the season. So one manager change "worked" (if you can call a 7-5 record working), at the expense of another that didn't.

I want to sell you this rock that keeps away bears.
There are so many more examples of managers being fired mid-season and the team sucks as bad as they had been with the new manager.

Yes but what were the expectations of the 86 and 91 Cubs? Because the 85 and 90 Cubs both had shitty 4th place finishes.
And yes the Mets did help the Brewers cause last year, but they still won 5 out of their last 6.

Yes that's true. But does anyone think Piniella has it in him to turn this ship around and make us a championship contender?
With that said, send him packing now so we can at least see if we can get something out of these guys.

Dude, you don't want to go that route. Where were the Brewers expected to finish last year? I think most people had them winning the WC. Where were the Mets supposed to finish last year? They were supposed to win their division. The 2004 Red Sox? Even the 2003 Marlins were supposed to be good, after signing IRod, and trading for Pierre.

It's not going to be Piniella or any other manager that will turn things around for the Cubs. The players have to start playing baseball. That's the only chance we have.
