People aren't allowed to bitch about Selig's stupid decisions because he isn't likely to change his mind about them?

Yes. That's exactly what I mean. People aren't ALLOWED to bitch about Selig's stupid decisions because he won't change his mind. I tried to use 500 words to explain it, but you boiled it down perfectly.

Or I could mean what I said up above and that people who bitch about something that Selig says CAN'T be changed (unless you are a huge fan of alternating years), are a pet peeve of mine. (I could go further into this, and try to explain that 95 percent of the people who are bitching about the all star game determination aren't in fact arguing for an alternative method, but are just bitching about the current one, but I think that would only confuse you further).

So...because Selig says something "CAN'T" be changed, it means that it is, literally, physically impossible to change it. It would defy all laws of physics and science and would cause a black hole to open up and the universe to swallow itself.

I get it now.

Butch, you are making a completely different argument, and ignoring every fucking thing I say, and being a snarky bitch along the way, which is a bit off putting to say the least. Let me try to make it clear for you.

Things that are NOT a pet peeve of mine:

-People who think Selig is being stubborn and/or stupid by not making the World Series home field advantage go to the team with the best record.
-People who make that argument.

Things that are a pet peeve of mine.

-People that don't make that argument. People that make the argument that the current system is stupid. People that are not arguing the merits of Bud Selig's power of reasoning unless Butch psychically puts it in their fucking heads, because as I stated before, NOBODY FUCKING MAKES THAT ARGUMENT, they simply state the current one is dumb. When pressed they might come up with this argument, but for the most part people make it as a stand alone argument.

Its complete and utter bullfuckingshit that I have to defend a "peeve" of mine to this extent, but there you go.

I wish that I believed in Fate. I wish I didn't sleep so late. I used to be carried in the arms of cheerleaders.

Without being a dick, I will say that I respectfully disagree with nearly every one of your suggestions.

It's a purity of baseball vs. viability of baseball thing. I understand that. I've learned to live with all of these things...well, except the dead ball thing.

Should this be like football and basketball where all the dimensions are the same too? Baseball thrives on it's quirks, that's why we love it. Can you imagine if all the ballparks looked like Dodger Stadium of Kaufman Stadium in Kansas City? You know how boring that would be?

I hate the Metrodome, but it makes the games there unique. That's what baseball is all about. Each team has it's own way of playing. That's what makes college football special too. It's not like the NFL where everything is the same. Same offenses, same looking stadiums, same announcers, same everything.

Same = boring.

Baseball makes it possible to have some differences. Love it or hate it, domes, turf, and different ballparks make the game interesting. That in itself has to be worth something, right?
I hate my pretentious sounding username too.

Uh...nobody ever knows, until the final out is made during the LCS. And that determination is sometimes made on the final play. Last year's Series could have just as easily happened in Boston and L.A. instead of Tampa and Philly.
In fact, Boston took their ALCS to game 7.

My guess is that as it stand, MLB has to book rooms in 4 different cities for the World Series. After the first round, they only need rooms in 2 cities. Under the "best record" format, they would have to book in 7 cities. After the first round, they would have to hold them in 3. Also bear in mind they would have to have rooms in EVERY city that has a playoff contender, until those contenders are eliminated. This, apparently, can't be done. Now, I'm assuming Selig has looked into this, and doesn't randomly lie to people when he says:

QUOTE "You simply can't do best record getting home-field (in the World Series). There's no way you could get the hotel rooms you need that late,"

But I could be wrong. Maybe he just likes pissing people off.

Umm...ok...well that was just weird. Considering that that list of peeves I posted was all about baseball traditions, a requirement that ballparks all be alike would be ON list, not the fact that they aren't.

Don't give Selig any ideas. If he thought that identical parks would somehow aid MLB's revenue stream, he'd be for it.

How you got this from my wish that the mound was at the old height, that umpires enforced the actual strike zone, that Prince Fielder not be allowed to play in his old man's pajamas, that all baseball players you know...played baseball, that mlb should go back to the assumption that 162 games is not only enough to figure out who should play for a pennant...but that the endurance contest is much more to the point than is waiting to see wich second place team can get hot at an opportune time...and that not knowing how world series opponents do against each other till the world series, baffles me.

As I said, I understand the arguments for most of these things. I still don't like them.

I'd also like to be able to read the back of Manny's jersey and see the last of these exploding maple bats.

BT, I believe the topic is "Baseball Pet Peeves" not "Baseball Message Board Pet Peeves".

Before 2003 no one complained about the old way of giving home field advantage because it had been done that way forever and wasn't really a big deal. You alternate. Simple, innocuous. 50/50 chance your team is playing with home field advantage. In retrospect, it was not a good method, but it was a fair one.

Selig changed the system to protect the potential loss of revenues and MLB marketing world wide after the 2003 tie.

And I don't like the assertion that we're all hypocrites because we didn't complain before, but now we're complaining about something that can be corrected despite Selig's stubbornness in the matter. I'll hop in my time machine, go back to 2002 and start a firethealternatinghomefieldadvantage.com blog for you.

And PS...I can think something is "dumb" if I want to without having to rationalize it to you. Here's some other things I don't like, but don't feel I need to have to justify: one of the hosts at work, green olives, ladder ball, Rush...etc.

And PPS...just because someone says something is dumb and doesn't provide a reason for it openly doesn't mean that they don't have a reason.
If Angelo had picked McClellin, I would have been expecting to hear by training camp that kid has stage 4 cancer, is actually 5'2" 142 lbs, is a chick who played in a 7 - 0 defensive scheme who only rotated in on downs which were 3 and 34 yds + so is not expecting to play a down in the NFL until the sex change is complete and she puts on another 100 lbs. + but this is Emery's first pick so he'll get a pass with a bit of questioning. - 1060Ivy
