I don't think anyone realistically thinks there are any scenarios where the Cubs won't have to pay at least some portion of Bradley's salary. So getting a solid major league 2B in exchange seems reasonable.
Castillo is a switch hitter with some speed. His lifetime OBP is .369 and it was .387 last season, showing that he isn't over the hill at age 34. His fielding isn't great, but it's not horrible either. It would give Castro another year with Theriot at SS.

I must have missed the new MLB ruling that said any team trading for Castillo cannot subsequently acquire an outfielder.

Am I the only one that doesn't want Cameron in Chicago? I don't think I want to see what 37 year old Mike Cameron brings to the table a year removed from steroids.

I don't know that I necessarily want him. I just find him the most palatable of the free agent CFs.

No you aren't. It may be the one thing we agree on. The thought of signing Camern pisses me off so much. He sucks. Great fielder, that's nice. He's as old as Castillo right? He's a terrible hitter. I hate Mike Cameron.
Apparently I hate him so much, I can only mnage sentence fragments.

I want no part of Cameron either. I'm not sure exactly what he brings to the table at his age other than some power and some decent defense in CF. I doubt he would come that cheap either. Fuck. Him.

Cameron is consistently good, not great. He plays very good defense, and there may not be a better option available to us in CF if we don't get Granderson. Would you rather we get a Jim Hendry special and four years of Marlon Byrd?
Just sayin'.

He is 37 years old, and is probably due for a massive decline. He hasn't hit over 250 since 2006. He's gotten on base at around a .330 clip over the past 3 seasons. He averages over 150 strikeouts per season. He is a prime candidate for an overly generous Hendry deal, since other teams will probably only offer him 1 season guaranteed.
I dunno, just doesn't sound very appealing to me. I'm not saying I would freak out over a one year deal, but considering that he'd most likely be our biggest acquisition after a crappy year, I'd be fairly disappointed in the offseason overall.

I just want to know who you'd prefer, of the realistic options. So far, here are the rumored non-Granderson names actually attached to the Cubs:
Cameron
Marlon Byrd
Rick Ankiel
Coco Crisp

I will admit, that's not an easy choice. Probably Byrd, even though he would most likely require a 3 year commitment vs (wild guess given Hendry's track record) 2 years of Cameron. I'm not a huge fan of Byrd either. Ankiel is a poor man's Cameron from the left side, and that isn't saying much. Crisp would probably come cheapest, but I don't want him (inevitably) leading off. I also wouldn't rule out a trade for another CF, not sure who though, but maybe someone younger who we could control for a while. I guess I will be pissed off regardless of who we sign for CF.

Is it so critical that we move Fuk back to right that we don't look hard at right fielders?

With that shit, we're better off keeping Bradley.

I wonder that, too, straw. Yes, Fuk is outstanding in right field, but he was pretty ok in center field.
Anyone know what good right fielders are available and realistic (i.e., sadly, not Bay or Holliday)?
And yes, Sandberg, the ideal outcome would have been a productive Bradley. But Hendry already double-fucked that up.

By the way - is it becoming more clear why I was/am so into Curtis Granderson for the Cubs?

Garrett Anderson
Rocco Baldelli
Johnny Damon (probably not well suited for RF b/c weak arm)
Brian Giles
Austin Kearns
Hideki Matsui
Xavier Nady
Randy Winn
I wouldn't mind a 1 year deal for most of those guys, especially Kearns, Matsui, or Winn. I think Matsui could do some damage in this lineup.
