Because I'm awesome. Didn't even have to speak to Barry Larkin's cousin this time.

<!--quoteo-->QUOTE <!--quotec-->When the Cubs told Milton Bradley in September, after one too many tantrums, that it was time to just go home, we know lots of people who thought he seemed about as tradable as Jack the Ripper. But if that's a conclusion you jumped to, better jump again.

Bradley was the runaway winner of our Most Likely to Get Traded at the Winter Meetings poll. And why is that? Because Milton Bradley can hit, gang. It's that basic. He has a higher career on-base percentage (.371) than Grady Sizemore or Johnny Damon. And he has a higher career OPS (.821) than Torii Hunter or Ichiro. You can look it up.

So for a team like Tampa Bay, always hunting for big upside for manageable dollars, Bradley just might be worth a spin of the roulette wheel.

The Rangers could still get in on this, but Tampa Bay seems more likely. That's because the baseball pieces appear to fit in place a lot easier for this man to wind up with the Rays, in that much-rumored three-way deal that would send Pat Burrell to the Mets and Luis Castillo to the Cubs. (The Mets, incidentally, then would be likely to turn around and sign Orlando Hudson to replace Castillo.)

What these teams haven't been able to match up is the money pieces. Bradley has two years and about $22 million left on his I.O.U. sheet. Castillo has two years and $12 million coming. And Burrell has one more year, at $9 million.

So these teams, from all indications, continue to look for palatable ways for the Cubs and Mets to help even out the money. And while not much appears to have changed lately, Cubs officials have told other clubs they're "confident" Bradley will be an ex-Cubbie by the time they hit the on-ramp to I-65 on Thursday.<!--QuoteEnd--><!--QuoteEEnd-->

By the way, I might rather roll the dice with Bradley then end up eating money *and* adding Castillo to the roster. What is our OF going to look like?

Ugh...2010 isn't going to be pretty.

I really don't understand the hatred for Luis Castillo. He got on base at a .387 clip last year. He's nothing special, but as long as we add a center fielder (which I think we'll do if we deal Bradley), I see no problems at all.
The thing you need to remember is that all Cardinals fans and all White Sox fans are very bad people. It's a fact that has been scientifically proven beyond a shadow of a doubt. Being a Cubs fan is the only path to rightousness and piousness. Cardinal and White Sox fans exist to be the dark, diabolical forces that oppose us. They are the yin to our yang, the Joker to our Batman, the demon to our angel, the insurgence to our freedom, the oil to our water, the club to our baby seal. Their happiness occurs only in direct conflict with everything that is pure and good in this world.

I worry about his knee, his loss of speed, his loss of range, and his age. He also slugs for shit.

Also...my most enduring memory of him is his involvement in Game 6. He's also inextricably tied to Juan Pierre in my mind. And I hate Juan Pierre a whole lot. I don't want him on the team.

I don't want the aging Castillo either but it still is better than holding on to Milton. Milton is not coming back to the Cubs.

It would be a unique experience to see good things written about a Cubs player that the team has to trade. I am hoping that we see snipets, blurbs, articles, billboards, etc. stating what a great talent Bradley is and how Milton is ready to turn it around with another club.

I don't think that Ricketts wants to have the home opener turn into a riot and witness fires set at Wrigley as his first game as an owner.

I guess I don't see the down side to that 3-way trade. I don't think anyone realistically thinks there are any scenarios where the Cubs won't have to pay at least some portion of Bradley's salary. So getting a solid major league 2B in exchange seems reasonable.

Castillo is a switch hitter with some speed. His lifetime OBP is .369 and it was .387 last season, showing that he isn't over the hill at age 34. His fielding isn't great, but it's not horrible either. It would give Castro another year with Theriot at SS.
I got nothin'.

I must have missed the new MLB ruling that said any team trading for Castillo cannot subsequently acquire an outfielder.
