Cubs vs. Cardinals 7/12/09 Game 2
#46
Mediocre game...got beat...pretty much a microcosm of the whole season.
I'm 100% fine with this. I'm just glad there's an actual plan in place that isn't, "Let's load up on retreads and hope we get lucky." I'm a little tired of that plan.

Was the umpiring as awful as it looked first hand? Didn't look like Wells was getting anything close, and then all the sudden the zone expanded like crazy in the 9th. The Wainwright play at second looked brutal too.
The thing you need to remember is that all Cardinals fans and all White Sox fans are very bad people. It's a fact that has been scientifically proven beyond a shadow of a doubt. Being a Cubs fan is the only path to rightousness and piousness. Cardinal and White Sox fans exist to be the dark, diabolical forces that oppose us. They are the yin to our yang, the Joker to our Batman, the demon to our angel, the insurgence to our freedom, the oil to our water, the club to our baby seal. Their happiness occurs only in direct conflict with everything that is pure and good in this world.

Horrible umpiring at the end of the game there. I think the homeplate ump was eager to start his vacation. Not a bad game for Wells. He basically made two bad pitches, which is understandable. He just sort of took a breath after getting Pujols out and they made him pay.

My brother in law and I were at the game, and were complaining about the umpiring since the first called strike from Wainwright. Even half of the drunks in the stands could see that the zone was all over the place. The umps had a brutal weekend, and they should all be ashamed of themselves.

I'm so ready for a computerized umpiring system.

Yeah, I'd pay money to see Milton take out a Dell Laptop with a Fungo.

He hit his spot on both pitches, too. I think Ludwick just beat him.

You've changed my mind on that--especially concerning balls and strikes. The technology exists, it wouldn't slow down the game (in fact, it would have to speed it up because we wouldn't have arguments or stare downs or discussions regarding the calls) and would take the home plate umpire egomaniac out of the game. It would be fair.

The second homer was hit on a pitch that was a few inches inside. Not a bad pitch at all.
I think the first one did get too much of the plate.
