Cubs v. Astros 07.29.09

I mean I don't think he'll be an ace, but he certainly is proving that he's at least a solid end of the rotation pitcher.

did johnson get hurt, or was there another reason fukudome is in?
I wish that I believed in Fate. I wish I didn't sleep so late. I used to be carried in the arms of cheerleaders.

There was just an ad for mangroomer.com during this commercial break...

I think I'll go see what they're about.

I don't know that Wells is a long term answer, but he's been pitching well lately. Good enough for me.
I got nothin'.

Johnson fouled a pitch off his foot and was taken out with a foot contusion.

I love me some Randy Wells.

Wells works pretty well for Wrigley, because he's a ground ball pitcher. He definitely relies on the defense and walks too many, but you never know. He may be a good fit for the Cubs.

Nice to see.

Anyone else seriously starting to drink the Randy Wells kool aid? I mean I know its still early(for him anyway) but it can't be a fluke by now can it?<!--QuoteEnd--><!--QuoteEEnd-->
I'm liking Randy Wells a lot. His K/9 ratio is the only thing that concerns me. A lot of outs on balls in play -- he doesn't miss a ton of bats.

But if he can keep doing it, then great.

He does it hitting his spots though, he wants them to put the bat on the ball on most of his pitches like Maddux did. When he hits the middle of the plate though, that's when he gets crushed as has happened a few times in the last month. Thankfully he doesn't do it too much now. Dude gets it, really understands how to "pitch" more than any rookie pitcher I've seen in a long time. He's incredibly composed out there as well.

I feel maybe the most confident when he's on the mound. You know he's pretty much always going to give you a chance to win.

He's walked over 2 in a game only twice this year in 14 starts coming into today. Just 21 walks in 93 innings now. Control is his greatest strength.

Randy Wells is my favorite player on the team right now. I'm not kidding.

He's pitching another hell of a game. I have no problem if hitters make a lot of contact against him. As long as they're making outs and that's exactly what he's been doing all year.

Am I the only one that thinks he bears a slight resemblance to Chris Carpenter's dumbass?

I wish that Wells could complete this game to give the pen an off day, but he is at 95 pitches through 7.
