I think I recall him being one of the "angry ones" for sure

I seriously remember people being furious...

I was angry only because reports were that he was pitching pain free. That turned out to be utter bullshit.

Yeah. I was pissed.

Hendry was willing to take a chance on guys like Wade Miller and Mike Sirotka, but not Mark Prior (a FAR greater talent than any of Hendry's other reclamation projects).

Now, if there was something Hendry (or someone else) knew about Prior, then that's another story. But for the amount of money, I thought the risk/reward ratio was more than acceptable.

Prior clearly wanted out of town and to pitch for a West Coast team. He got his wish.

If Hendry would have given him another contract we probably would have had to endure another season of Tribune Daily Prior watch updates and pages of how well Prior completed his towel drill.

The risk reward for extending Prior another year or two was there but just too much baggage.

The media flurry around Prior couldn't really help him. Yes, it's not like he was in Chicago doing rehab, but the media that is always following him because of how big of a club the Cubs are is way more than the Padres. Going home to San Diego was probably the best thing he could have done. In the end, it's irrelevant because nothing came of it anyways.
I hate my pretentious sounding username too.

Wow I completely forgot about Wade Miller.

Not to re-argue this one, but if you recall, it was clear that Prior was going to miss most, if not all, of 2008, and he refused to sign a contract that gave the Cubs an option for 2009. So all we'd have been doing was paying him to rehab for the year (again), with no guarantees that he would then stick around. I didn't want the Cubs to non-tender him, unless they couldn't get more than a 1-year commitment.
This is not some silly theory that's unsupported and deserves being mocked by photos of Xena.  [Image: ITgoyeg.png]
