Cubs vs Reds 8/3/2009

This is one of my faves. Bringing in a new pitcher to walk a batter intentionally. That'll get you in a nice groove to start off.

And it's followed by a walk. Shocking!

Alf's stroke on both of those swings was ugly.

FWIW, the Reds' guys kept saying that's by far the best velocity Harang's had all year and that he hadn't looked anything like this in a long time. Add in a big zone(both ways), and that's gonna be a lot of strikeouts.

And not sure if you all saw but Weathers was tossed, not that it matters as he was done anyway.

Came in under 100 pitches, hadn't allowed a run, we blew leads late the last couple of games, Gregg is unavailable, etc.

Yeah, I know but Wells was clearly out of gas last inning and we still have middle relief for the 8th.

Yeah I don't disagree, just saying why.

I suppose it makes sense to spare the pen to a point...knowing how much trouble Lou's willing to let Wells get in...
