Agreed.

Why not just let him go to arbitration, settle for 3.5M/4M and avoid the 2 year deal? That would be prudent. But JH has continued to show that prudence isn't on his list of attributes. Grabow could totally suck next year and we'd be on the hook for 2011 we we really don't need to take that risk.

Grabow is not a LOOGY, and will not be used as a LOOGY. He will be the primary setup man.

I don't mind having him back, but two years and $4 million a year? Come the fuck on. Name one team out there that would pay him that, especially given the fact that he's going to be a type A free agent? Just offer him arbitration and be done with it.

Can we PLEASE wait until Hendry actually signs Grabow to a deal before we start moaning about it?
I wish that I believed in Fate. I wish I didn't sleep so late. I used to be carried in the arms of cheerleaders.

Grabow made $2.3 M last year. He is a type A free agent and offering him arbitration will take his salary to $3.5 - $4 M or more. There's nothing wrong with the proposed contract, if it's as actually stated here.

If we offer him arbitration, the WORST case scenario is we get him for the contract discussed and just ONE year.

Wait...you mean I'm not the only one who thinks Hendry consistently overpays for mediocre players, then complains he can't afford a guy like, say, DeRosa, because he ran out of money?

There's nothing better than to realize that the good things about youth don't end with youth itself. It's a matter of realizing that life can be renewed every day you get out of bed without baggage. It's tough to get there, but it's better than the dark thoughts. -Lance

I understand that. However, if his 2010 numbers are close to the numbers he's had in the last couple of years, the amount he would receive after 2010 in arbitration would be more. Therefore, if he suceeds like we all hope, the 2 year deal would actually save the Cubs some $$$. Nitpicking about it being a 1 or 2 year deal for a guy that will constitute about 2% of the total payroll seems rather pointless to me.
