Cubs and Grabow discussing multi-year deal - 1060Ivy - 11-02-2009

Hendry may have decided to actually sign a lefty for the bullpen before the season begins this year.

Not certain if the signing Grabow would lead to move Marshall back to the starting rotation.

According to Levine, Cubs are looking to offer 2 years $6.5 to $7.5 MM with a vesting option plus incentives.

Absolutely. Meet the new boss -- same as the old boss...

That's because the boss for moves like this - Hendry - IS the same boss. How many times does he have to sign a middle reliever / set-up guy whose had years of mediocrity, and then one or two good years? Literally learns nothing.

Normally I don't care how much we spend on decent players as it isn't my money, but Grabow is borderline mediocre and absolutely not worth a long-term investment more than 2 years. Somebody needs to inform Jim that this isn't 2007.

Cubs and Grabow discussing multi-year deal - ruby23 - 11-03-2009

Since when is a 2 year deal a long term deal? Also, a little over $3 M per year doesn't seem like a huge commitment or overspending to me. I dunno, this doesn't bother me at all.

yeah, this is small time. i'm gonna wait for the big fuckups before i start getting pissed.

Cubs and Grabow discussing multi-year deal - Scarey - 11-03-2009

It's unnecessary. It's 3 or 4 million dollars a year that we could use on something that is necessary. There's one thing that the Cubs do have in terms of MLB ready prospects, and that's middle relievers.

Cubs and Grabow discussing multi-year deal - offcolorpoetry - 11-03-2009

Hell, we paid Kevin Gregg $4 million - if we aren't going to spend the money on something else, I have no problem with resigning Grabow.

Cubs and Grabow discussing multi-year deal - The Dude - 11-03-2009

unless it's Paul Assenmacher, it's a waste. See Remlinger, Howry, Eyre, etc.

Cubs and Grabow discussing multi-year deal - Scarey - 11-03-2009

What really fucking sucks about this is the Cubs are competing against absolutely nobody here. If Grabow were to hit free agency, nobody would sign him because nobody wants to give up a draft pick for a mediocre left handed middle reliever. He would have to do a minor league deal.

Cubs and Grabow discussing multi-year deal - rok - 11-03-2009

On a case by case basis you can make an argument for giving a 2-3 year deal to some mediocre player or 2. The problem with the Cubs is that we do this for half of the bench and bullpen. It all adds up after a while to something meaningful, and it does prevent us from having the flexibility to add an everyday player or eating whatever portion of Bradley's remaining contract will be necessary.

Cubs and Grabow discussing multi-year deal - Coach - 11-03-2009

I see no need to sign him to a multi year deal.

This is just another example of JH's foolishness. It is time for him to go.
