2010 Minor League Roundup
<!--quoteo(post=104083:date=Jul 5 2010, 11:20 AM:name=funkster)-->QUOTE (funkster @ Jul 5 2010, 11:20 AM) <{POST_SNAPBACK}><!--quotec-->Hey Kid, has Jackson been showing signs of developing any power? I haven't been following the youngsters as closely as I would like.<!--QuoteEnd--><!--QuoteEEnd-->

Jackson has hit for power all year long. He had a slugging of .517 in Daytona which is fabulous for that league. The FSL has been known as a very difficult place to hit, especially for power. To have a solid slugging percentage in that league is extremely encouraging.

Many have been curious to see where his home run numbers go after leaving the FSL. So far in 8 games with the Smokies, Jackson has hit 2 home runs and has a .667 slugging percentage. He's going to be very highly regarded among all of baseball's top prospects.

That's good news. I remember not many people were high on picking him...seems like Tim Wilken's picks have been turning out pretty nice. How is Vitters doing?

Struggling at AA right now, but he's only 20 and has currently been hitting a bit lately. He's at an .800 OPS over the last 10 games in which he's drawn 3 walks and hit 2 doubles and 2 homers.

Yikes...Jay Jackson didn't have such a great night.

What the hell? Why is Chen up to AAA, but pitching in relief? He was dominating as a starter in AA. What the fuck are the Cubs doing constantly shifting our top pitching prospects in and out of the rotation?

What happened to Josh Vitters...I'm guessing that he dropped off your "best prospects" list due to his lack of plate discipline?

Yes, in a nutshell. His whole approach isn't improving - if anything it's gone backwards. Great swing, potential power, but how's he going to get to it if he shows virtually no discrimination at the plate?<!--QuoteEnd--><!--QuoteEEnd-->
I was shocked by this. Shocked!
It's obvious that Keith Law just hates the Cubs.
There's nothing better than to realize that the good things about youth don't end with youth itself. It's a matter of realizing that life can be renewed every day you get out of bed without baggage. It's tough to get there, but it's better than the dark thoughts. -Lance

His name is Hayden Simpson. The Cubs did sign him to a $1.06 mil deal. He's still in Mesa. They plan on sticking him in Boise, then off to instructional league.

Worse. He'll get called up and pitch out of his had...and instead of selling him high in the off-season (hah), he'll shit the bed in 2011.

I'm actually shocked for two reasons.

-Vitters plate discipline has gotten much better this year. He currently has a .062 IsoP compared to .030 last year. That's actually a pretty decent IsoP.
-Vitters is still only 20 years old and is in AA where many prospects go straight from there to the majors.

I understand if he drops off of his list, but to be specifically critical about his plate discipline when he has dramatically improved it this year is, in a word... shocking.
