Vitters too. He's been hitting the last few games he's played in. Hopefully he'll turn it into one of his hot streaks.

Kind of scary that Jackson has almost caught up with Vitters power-wise.
Reply
Vitters has defintely struggled. Taking a cursory look at his minor league numbers he has always struggled at first while moving up a level. He only had a .795 OPS (his .291 avg was fairly empty) at Daytona when he was moved up to Tennessee. Maybe he was rushed a bit. His OPS is currently a pathetic .655.

How old is Vitter? 20 or 21?
Reply
20. He'll be 21 in August.

I wouldn't be too worried about him at this point. It's not as if he's copletely struggled throughout his time with the Cubs. I think people have seen the success that Castro had and have heightened their expectations. Castro is an extremely rare case though. Honestly, Vitters could take 3 more years in the minors and still be age appropriate when if he were to hit the majors in 2013. At the current pace, it looks like he could probably use a full year next year in AA and possibly be ready by Spring of 2012 if he can have some sucess. There's no need to rush with him.

Right now, he's facing some very good pitching competition with more advanced breaking balls. I see that as a positive. It will give him lots of practice at pitch recognition. He may struggle , but keep in mind that Vitters was such a highly sought after prospect because he was a good hitter. Not specifically for his power, not for his speed or athleticism. For his hitting ability. Hopefully he'll be able to make adjustments and add to his power numbers because the Cubs could use a good bat.
Reply
Yeah, I was just wondering his age because some people seem ready to call him a bust when he struggles when, in fact, he is young for the league he is in.
