Almost certainly - even though there are a couple righties whom I'd rather see go.

Yep, if it isn't Shark, there is no justice in this world.

I know this would never happen, but what about a 6 man rotation.

I would be all for that, but convincing the brass to do it is another story. I know that the BoSox have been talking about it with Dice-K coming back.

Or a 5 man rotation with 6 pitchers. Platoon Silva & Gorz to play the match-ups, and have the non-starter in the pen as the long man.
I hate my pretentious sounding username too.

No way we send Russell down. Right now, he's one of the few guys missing bats in the pen. My guess is that Samardjiza is the one sent to AAA whenever Lilly gets back. There's also the possibility of trading Gorzelanny for an established bullpen arm, but it's a little early for that. Personally, I think Lou would go with Marmol and a group of lefties if they got guys out.

I wouldn't be so sure. Marshall and Grabow sure as hell aren't going anywhere, and you can't get rid of Gorz either. The depth he provides is very, very important with Silva being a huge question mark and injuries. He could be a nice arm out of the pen as well.

I just have a hard time seeing them go with 4 lefties, even if they're all way better options than Samardzija. I still think Russell will be in Iowa, but we'll see. I wish it would be Shark.

Russell would still be a better pitcher than Shark throwing right handed...

The only thing about this that concerns me is that it doesn't really allow for either man to get into any rhythm. My understanding is that pitchers like to go on regular rest as opposed to platooning. I remember the Brewers tried to go with a home/away platoon with Dave Bush and someone else a few years ago and it failed miserably.

If we have 6 pitchers capable of being effective MLB starters then we have a surplus...an asset that can be leveraged for something we don't have...like...oh, I dunno MIDDLE RELIEF...a MIDDLE INFIELDER...A TRUCKLOAD OF SUNFLOWER SEEDS?

NFW we carry six starters. That's ridiculous.
