No kidding. I thought he was going to be garbage, he may well still end up as garbage, but two solid outings is more than I hoped for.

I am with both of you, I never thought his ERA would be under his weight.

If we don't make that trade we don't get Byrd either. We fucking won so far.
I hate my pretentious sounding username too.

Yep, been great. Lou said Rothschild changed some mechanical things with him in the spring, even his location on the mound. Everything appears to have helped. Throwing a sinker in the 91 mph area with lots of life. It's not like he's completely lucking his way into it, his stuff really looks solid so far this season, and did all spring after that horrible first start.
He's also really confident right now and as I said in the game thread, went on and on about how much he loves our fans.

Probably because he doesn't have a hard time getting a deep dish and pint for free.

He's been good, but I'm not going to pass any judgments until later in the season. I'm may be optimistic, but I'm still a realist and there's a good chance he'll fall off the map.

He easily could. However, watch his stuff and location closely so far and you can see it's not of a 6+ ERA pitcher. He's going to give up hits, but if he keeps that sinker at 90+ and moving down as much as it is, he's going to be at least solid because he doesn't give up a lot of walks. If I had to predict right now, I'd say he has a 4.30-4.50 ERA; a Marquis type of year for us. And people might laugh at that, but that would be damn good out of the #5 spot, especially when we have 4 very good starters ahead of him.

Silva's clearly not the same pitcher he was in Seattle, and he looks to be back to his form as a solid #3-4 in Minnesotta. In the N.L. he may even wind up the year with an ERA under 4.00~ that's not being entirely unrealistic for him. As much as I'd love to see Gorzelanny have the chance to regain his 2007 production for us, I just don't see how you can chuck Silva in the pen with the way he's going now. A guy (so far successfully) making a career-saving comeback is not the guy you want to have relegated to doing mop-up and long-relief. Anyway, I'm uber~impressed with what Silva's done, and on top of that, we have Byrd doing everything we wanted from him, too. Maybe the Bradley fiasco does have a silver lining, after all.

It does raise a really tough question with the rotation. So far, we've seen three total starts from Silva/Gorz. The best was Silva's yesterday. The next best was Gorzelanny's, IMO. And then Silva's first start, which was also good. So if Gorzelanny throws another one like he did in his first outing...?

If we go with Silva in the rotation, does that mean we have to send down Russell?
I dont see us having 4 LHP in the pen. |
