Everybody was approaching him and asking him to sign things so I kinda just sat back and watched for a while how geniunely friendly and interested he was about what fans had to say. Then we decided to head down to the lower level and try and find some empty seats but while I was waiting for the rest of my crew to get to the ramp Ricketts comes out too by himself so I strike up a conversation with him and we talked all the way down the ramp. The guy is fucking cool. Here are the highlights of the conversation.

Me - "This is a pretty nice home you bought here"
Him - "Yeah I'm working on it (chuckles)"
Me - "After all those years of the cubbies being owned by suits, it's nice to see somebody at the top who cares enough to walk through crowds like you're doing"
Him - "yeah well I want to meet the fans, see what they have to say, and I want to see where the lines are and that kind of thing"
Me - "That's great. Have you been to all the games so far?"
Him - "No I had to miss the Cinci series because I had too much going on but I've been to all the rest"
Him - "How bout this April weather though eh? it's been one hell of a fucking week"
Me - "Yes it's been surprisingly nice though it's still pretty cold upstairs"
Me - "So a few days ago you met a guy I know in the PNC club and he showed you a cubs website that we all created TheSonsOfIvy...have you checked it out?"
Him - "Who's your friend"
Me turning red - "Well this is a little embarrasing but I don't actually know his first name...it's an online fan club so we all have nicknames that we go by"
Him - "Ahh...haha no I haven't had a chance to look at it yet but it sounds really cool"

At this point we had gotten to the bottom of the ramp and DJJizzyJew, his wife, and my girlfriend were catching up. The girls asked Ricketts if he'd take a pic with us and he said "sure, right after this at-bat"

What a cool fucking guy...pic to follow once my girlfriend sends it to me.<!--QuoteEnd--><!--QuoteEEnd-->

"Ed."

It's "Ed."

From now on, each time someone meets Tom (and apparently, we all will) and he asks who the friend on SOI is, just say "Ed."

Synchronize your watches.

He really said "...one hell of a fucking week?"

That's cool.
<!--QuoteEnd--></div><!--QuoteEEnd-->

yes he really said "one hell of a fucking week". The non-PCness of it definitely turned me on.

How about semi-charmed kind of life?
There's nothing better than to realize that the good things about youth don't end with youth itself. It's a matter of realizing that life can be renewed every day you get out of bed without baggage. It's tough to get there, but it's better than the dark thoughts. -Lance

Yeah I'm not ashamed to admit that sometimes I go back and listen to their first couple albums and still enjoy them.

This would be the exception that proves the rule?

They were also a total bore live. The were supposed to be on tour for their first album, Supporting James, but the James singer hurt his neck and 3EB got the tour. They carried a band on the road called Coward to open for them and Coward kicked their asses.

There's a lot to that. That goes for all of the arts.

I tell myself that's why songwriting (lyrics at least) is so difficult...I don't have enough wrong in my life.
