What is even more retarded is that a season series against the Crackheads ends up being equally as important as one against an NL East or West team. It's just plain wrong. We should never play more than 2-3 games against the Sox ever.

That was meant to say that the Floating realignment idea was not going to happen. This was what he was talking about. Rosenthal wrote that back in Feb it looks like. The Radical plan was what Will was talking about. Anything is possible with Selig at the helm.

One of the dumb things about that idea is the Great Lakes and Midwest distinction. There are 6 Great Lakes cities, yet only 3 are being included in the Great Lakes division. And how you separate the Red Sox and Yanks yet put the Cubs and Sox in the same division is beyond retarded. I hope Will was just speculating. I only caught the 2nd part of his interview, so this is catching me really off guard.

It wasn't talked about a whole lot to be honest. However he did bring it up and it surprised me as well. He also mentioned that if they went to that alignment that interleague play would an all year thing. Not just a few weeks of the season.

What surprises me even more is that the Cubs and White Sox are in the same division in two of the three proposals in Rosenthal's article. Makes you wonder a little.

I would actually prefer the Sox be in the same division if we're going to play them. At least the outcome of the games would mean a little bit more than they currently do.

God, I wish the city had called Reinsdorf's bluff and allowed him to move the team to Florida 20 years ago. Life would be so much easier for me. NO scenario where we have to play meaningful games against the Sox has any merit whatsoever. NONE. That would only validate their existence, which should never happen.

As it is now...its overkill and I get sick of focusing on it throughout the season and in particular in the weeks leading up to it. It's so lame. I have a coworker who during spring training kept bragging about how the Sox are the better team because they lead the Cubs by two games head to head, as if that has any bearing on anything whatsoever.

I don't mean to sound like a pessimist, but the chances of the Cubs and the Sox meeting in the world series would seem to be pretty slim. I mean what are the chances that the first time the cubs make the world series in 60 to 70 some odd years that the Sox would also happen to be there? Playing the Sox is highlight of the season for most fans, ticket sales and tv ratings would back that up.

I do though think the series could be shortened to 3 games each year, played over the same weekend. The two teams could take alternate seasons hosting the 1st and 3rd game, or the 1st and 2nd. I also think that had the BP Crosstown Cup been introduced as more of a tongue in cheek thing (make the trophy a giant hot dog or something that was obviously done for fun) the idea would work better. Making it a serious sounding thing ironically opens it up for more mocking.

And I don't think this is tongue in cheek. I just think someone figured out the rivalry could be monetized and that someone (BP) would write a big fucking check. I'll bet anything the trophy will try to look serious as hell.

I don't want them in the same division, but doing so wouldn't eliminate the possibility of the teams meeting in the postseason (unless they eliminate the wild card).
