QUOTE Which brings me to the reason that this is worse than living in LA, or living in St. Louis. Because you only get shit there when the Cubs are in town.
That is just flat out wrong. At least the St. Louis part of it. Anyone that lives near there would tell you that as well. They worry about the Cubs 24/7. When their kids ask them who they like either the Cubs or Cards I guarantee you their first answer is... We hate the Cubs. It's not we cheer for the Cardinals. There is a pic on the net somewhere of a snow covered Busch Stadium where somebody put Cubs Suck in huge letters in the snow then took a picture of it from up high in one of the nearby hotels. I get what your saying but you get shit every day of the year in Stl if they find out you are a Cubs fan. They like Sox fans have a shit ton of Facebook pages that do nothing but make fun of the Cubs.

Having spent just a few weekends in St. Louis/the St. Louis area, I can back this up 100%. You can't get away with wearing a Cubs hat without hearing a ton of shit from random strangers.

Yeah. I don't want to try to take away from any of the bullshit that you guys go through. All I am saying is that you do get shit all of the time all year in Stl as well. I have random strangers telling me all of the time that the Cubs suck or 1908 being yelled out.

From all of this, that's the loose thread you decided to pull on?

It's because of all the whining about inter-league play. Can you imagine a Bulls fan saying "I can't fucking believe we have to play the Lakers this year! What kind of bullshit is that? They're not in the Eastern Conference!"
In every sport, there is intermingling of leagues/conferences.
I get the fact that the typical modern White Sock fan tends to be dick. And it sucks that they won a World Series in '05. But we still have to play 'em.
There's nothing better than to realize that the good things about youth don't end with youth itself. It's a matter of realizing that life can be renewed every day you get out of bed without baggage. It's tough to get there, but it's better than the dark thoughts. -Lance

That's true, I know that sucks. And I was serious about the effects of growing up in central IL, I do think it's made me way less sensitive or at least used to other fans giving me shit.

I can be sensitive about certain things, but a Sox fan making fun of me or the Cubs is not one of them for whatever reason. When I do run into such Sox fans and they give me shit, I just give them a blank stare and shrug. They usually will press me and ask why it doesn't bother me and I just give them the live and let live attitude. It's at that point that they feel like assholes and I'm pleased with myself.

I don't like inter-leauge, but I understand it is here to stay, and I can live with it. If the Cubs play the White Sox every three years, great. I wouild actually be fine, with one three game series every year. I don't like the fact, that the Cubs have to get worked up about 6 games with the Sox, while the Cards get a vacation with the Royals. It fucking sucks.
I also, have to believe, that the Sox get way more revenue bump, than the Cubs do. BP is on a roll this week. As bad as the Cup is, dumping oil in the Gulf of Mexico far over shadows it.
I like you guys a lot.

To their credit, Ted Drewes has served Cub-themed desert ( Cub Cakes : "chocolate cake smothered in hot fudge, strawberries and blueberries and garnished with whipped cream and a cherry") when they're in town to play the Cards. So there's that.

I'd go see the Cubs play literally any team in the major leagues, AT virtually any park in the major leagues, and have a blast. I've done it. I've gone to Houston, San Diego, Atlanta, New York, Milwaukee, San Francisco, L.A., and Cincinnati have been among the vast minority rooting for the Cubs, and had a blast. The only places I will not go is the Cell, or Wrigley when the Cubs are playing the Sox. I've had my balls busted by fans of pretty much every team in existence. I can handle all of that.
Out of all of them, the only ones I don't want to deal with are Sox fans. The reasons are myriad, but they, as a species, are off the scale annoying. And, as Butch has argued, there is no inherent baseball reason for the Cubs playing the Sox, other than money. They are not in our division. They are not in our league.
I am much happier when we beat the Cardinals, because those games matter. The only joy I take from a Sox win is that it's one less game I have to hear bullshit from Sox fans. If we sweep the Sox, I don't call Sox fans and rub it in their faces. I look at it as having survived another series with the assclowns of baseball.

Other than that, what's the logical explanation? The only one I can think of is the fact that the record against the AL is low on the list of tie breakers. I just don't think that's a good enough reason to cease the extra revenue from Cubs/Sox games.
Here's the most logical reason from the Cubs' standpoint, and I've already mentioned it.
We play .486 baseball against the White Sox. The Cardinals play .589 baseball against the Royals. The Cardinals are our biggest rival and competition in the NL Central. We're giving them a built-in advantage every single season (however slight) by playing this retarded series.
If the extra revenue is more important than that, I don't know what to tell you.

We lose against the Sox so we shouldn't play them? That's retarded. Here's an idea... play better against the Sox when we play them. I think that might work.
Come on Butch. We all know you hate the Sox and everything, but at least make some real points instead of this bullshit.

Please make it plainer. Should we not play the Phillies or the Mets since they're good teams? We should make it so that we only play the Pirates, Reds and Nationals all year because those other teams in the N.L are just too darn good.
