The Cubs are clearly the best .500 team in baseball.
I think it's a tad early to get too excited about this team. They just won three of four from the Arizona. So what? They could easily drop the next three games and we'll be back to hating them again. A 4-3 home stand is okay, but not really anything to get a boner about.

It may be early, yea, but I think if we were told before the season that on May 3rd we'd be at .500 while our corner infielders are hitting a collective .200 or whatever ridiculous number Lee and ARam are hitting, we'd take that. So in that sense, I'm satisfied right now.

The NL Central is 31-41 against the East and West thus far (Cubs are 6-8 for their part); chances are that we'll be playing a fairly weak schedule for most of the season.
One dick can poke an eye out. A hundred dicks can move mountains.

All I was saying when I made this thread was that I like the personality of this team far better than those of recent past. I like Byrd, I like Colvin, I like Nady, I've always like Soriano, Ramirez, and Lee. I like Dempster, I like Lilly, I like Zambrano. Shit, even my favorite fucktards, Soto and Theriot, have been likable. All I was saying is that I this team has been enjoyable thus far because my hatred level is at a possible all time low.

I have yet to form an opinion on this team. I may still not have an opinion until the all-star beak, but this season reminds me a little of 2007, where we get good pitching (save for the pen) but the offense is inconsistent. Maybe if we hang in there for a while and make a trade in July, we can go on a nice run. I do agree with Ruby though, that this is a hard bunch to dislike, for their efforts alone.

Yeah I was thinking a few days ago that this team feels like 07. Which is a good thing for me considering how I felt coming in. Colvin and Byrd have both been very pleasant surprises and other than Alf in left and Zambrano's pickoff moves our defense hasn't been quite as bad as I feared.
I still think we are probably two bullpen arms and one impact position player away from legitimately contending for a playoff spot. Hopefully Castro and some trades can solve that.
Really if we even had a decent pen and had Ramirez shown up at all we could have a pretty good record. But the next two weeks look fairly light, so hopefully we will make a run.
The bad thing is, its gonna take a lot more wins to win the division than it did in 07. Although after the Cardinals the rest of the division is brutal.

Yeah, I was gonna mention that too. No team really scares me in this division, but 85 wins won't cut it. I think both the Brewers and Reds are mediocre at best. One can't pitch and the other can't hit. The Cards should eventually go through their own issues, but theirs pale in comparison to the rest of the division. If they Cards improve their pen by trade and get more consistent offense, we won't catch them. I'm starting to wonder though, how winnable the WC is. There are a ton of flawed teams in the NL.

Yeah I think the Reds, Pirates and Astros all look pretty bad both on paper and in games I've seen so far and the Brewers pitching is literally AWFUL so they arent going to do anything this year. I would be shocked if we caught the Cardinals.
I do think the wildcard will be winnable, I think it will probably end up between the Braves, Cubs and Rockies/Giants.
I can't see the Padres keeping up their current ways, The Dodgers and Dbacks pitching is brutal in every way, the Nationals and Marlins just dont have enough talent and the Mets are.... the Mets.

I get that and I agree. Byrd has been a breath of fresh air. A complete opposite of the other MB. Yeah, I like the charactor of this team, but if they play .500 ball the rest of the season, I will quickly sour.

We basically got Byrd and Silva for Bradley.

For some reason I assumed Bradley was playing better in Seattle -- probably because I hadn't heard about any insane blowups. But he isn't.

Last season for Bradley at the end of April:
.118/.333/.294, .627 OPS
He's doubled his BA but everything else is pretty much in line with 1 year ago. At this rate he will be out of baseball by the fall.
