If he was used the way I wanted him to be used, it wouldn't be an issue. He's not a inning-long reliever and not a multiple inning reliever. He's not a loogy in the literal sense, but he should never face more than 3 batters. The role that Lou seems to think he's fit for is just plain wrong though.

I'd have guessed something close to that.
If Lee and Rami were hitting and we had middle relief we'd be in first place.

Holy shit.

Those are some dire numbers right there. I wonder how much patience Lou/Hendry will have with Howry. They've shown way too much with Grabow in my opinion. It's time to start seriously thinking about Cashner or Jackson in the pen.

Yeah, I'm confused. He hasn't done well with inherited runners either, so I'm guess he shouldn't be a bail out guy like Marmol's been in the past. He should just come in the 7th or 8th for one or two outs?

That is odd, because as we all know the market is usually PERFECT at evaluating middle relievers. I think we can all agree that there is no easier job for a GM than assembling a bullpen.

Because everyone knew Grabow's ERA would double this year?
People complained about the amount Grabow was given, NOT that he was given a contract. If you knew Grabow was going to be this bad, seriously, you are a fucking savant.
It's possible Hendry paid more than market price for Grabow, but I don't think its clear. Regardless, people aren't complaining about the amount, they are complaining (rightfully) about the fact he is having his worst season ever.

Yep, he should start the inning, be used for 1-3 hitters and then pulled, using him against lefty heavy lineups. Under no circumstance should he finish an inning, then be brought out for the next inning like Lou has been doing way too much. Marshall should be the permanent 8th inning guy.

I admittedly didn't know that he would be this bad, but I knew he wasn't someone that could be relied on. He gives up too many hits/BBs and doesn't strike out enough guys. This isn't something new, it's been his whole career. To give you a basis of comparison, his career WHIP and K/9 numbers are extremely similar to 2008 Bob Howry.

I'm not sure why you want him to pitch to lefties specifically.
Career vs. RHB: .260/.349/.406
Career vs. LHB: .262/.333/.378
Sure, he's better against lefties, but not by very much at all.

I disagree. I think Russel would have still been better. Regardless, if he was putting up 2008 Howry-esque numbers it wouldn't matter if he was the 3rd best reliever or not. He would still be part of the problem.

Grabow needs to be sent down, traded or cut... Russel should be given a shot in grabow's place...

The reason Grabow is still a member of the team?
Three words: two year contract.
