Hendry to be back for 2011

We’ve got all kinds of interviews to sift through, but for now, you know that Lou is retiring at the end of the season. The bigger issue, and I put it to Tom Ricketts directly, is the future of Jim Hendry. Tom was as direct in return, saying that Jim would lead the charge for new manager of the Cubs and would be the GM going into 2011. All indications were pointing that way, what with Ricketts being very pleased with Hendry hires Tim Wilken and Oneri Fleita, who have worked with the scouts to rebuild the minor-league system.

Bob Brenly no doubt will be a candidate, but he played it cool.

“If and when the times comes, it will be handled the right way, and not through the media,” Bob said in the dugout a few minutes ago when asked about his possible candidacy.

bunch. of. fucking. broads.

Hendry is NOT back for 2011. Hendry MAY be back for 2011, but absolutely NOTHING changed today, other than Lou confirmed what most of us thought was inevitable. Ricketts didn't say "full stock" he said "full stop". Which is to say, he said "Jim Hendry is our GM, period". Ricketts did NOT confirm he will be GM in 2011. He did confirm Hendry will be GM until the end of this year.

That's it.

Just now, from Benly:

Does his candor help or hurt his chances?

It doesn't really matter. It's Sandbergs job if he wants it.

I hope you're wrong. Not that I hope Sandberg isn't hired...I just hope it's not that simple.

I think he's probably scared of losing Wilken if he lets Hendry go.

Sandberg is a legend. And if he were a legend with the Pirates, a AAA manager with the Pirates, and up for the Pirates job, there would be no question.

The Cubs are not the Pirates. There will be a thorough search, in which Sandberg will be one of many candidates.

Has a GM ever been kept on to hire a new manager and subsequently fired right after? Seems like it would be a little weird for Jim to hire Lou's replacement and then shown the door.

I would guess that unless the team has a spectacularly embarrassing final 60+ games, Hendry will still be around come Jan 1, 2011.

If this has all been a string of bad luck, preceded by Zell making him sign high-profile free agents to keep fan interest high at any cost, then you're right.

I hope you're right. I hope BT has always been right.

Shouldn't it be "full stop", not "full stock"? Anyway, I'm ok with this.

BT, Rapp, and myself have planned a midnight groupie party to celebrate. We're going to line up on our knees outside of Hendry's door with mouths wide open. Anyone that wants to join us is welcome, but you have to go to the end of the line.
