As everyone who likes OBP as a stat constantly says OBP is mostly about HITTING.
That is the main component of the stat! Only people who didn't read Moneyball, or totally mis-read it, think that OBP is about walks.
It's about hitting.

All-time leaders in OBP (since 1900)
Ted Williams
Babe Ruth
Lou Gehrig
Barry Bonds
Pujols is in the top ten. Are these guys "bat on the shoulder-type fellows who couldn't fucking hit a lick?" No. They swung the bat very well. But they got great pitches to hit, because they were selective at the plate, and didn't hack at everything in sight.

Is Adam Dunn on that list? Eddie "The Walking Man" Yost? No. You know why?
Because, even though they are awesome at taking a walk,
OBP is mostly about HITTING.
There's nothing better than to realize that the good things about youth don't end with youth itself. It's a matter of realizing that life can be renewed every day you get out of bed without baggage. It's tough to get there, but it's better than the dark thoughts. -Lance

To point out that NONE of those guys were thought of a "walkers."
