I would be fine with this if he shows improvement over the last couple of months. I am a huge D Lee guy but he has been pretty brutal this year. Especially after what he did last year. Maybe they ink him for 1 more year at a hometown discount and that buys time to groom a replacement, whether someone up with the club now or a young buck.

I'd be fine with a cheap, 1-year deal for Lee if we don't go after Dunn.

I thought you didn't like Dunn? I haven't had time to read every post in this thread though, so maybe that was already discussed.

He loves Dunn...he salivates at the notion of seeing that festering baboon adorning our blues. Even as he reads this, a tiny manifestation of spittle has formed near the curl of mouth, and his hand has disappeared underneath his Formica desktop.

There's no way DLee would sign a 1-year contract. He may not be among the best hitting 1B in the league, but he's a GG'er and an every day player for years. Prior to this season, his previous 3 seasons he had an OBP of .400 - .361 - .393. If the Cubs don't give him at least 2 years (he'd be 36 at the end), someone else will.

Plus, our best 1B are pretty modest prospects in AA.

Free Agent 1B this off season (that are worth while): Dunn, Konerko & Pujols.
Free Agent 1B next off season: Fielder, Gonzalez, Helton & Howard

Didn't Howard just sign some huge extension? If you're referring to Ron Howard, then I apologize. Cause Opie can still rake.

Yes Howard definitely signed an extension.

Sorry Andrew, but were you jerking off Neil Cotts?

Let me re-phrase that. I took the information from the website Cot's Baseball Contracts.

Bringing up Cotts' name would probably send Butcher into a rage.
I got nothin'.

I am pretty sure Pujols isn't a free agent until next offseason.

It's a club option, so you're right.

For what it's worth, Lee invoked his 10 and 5 rights. So Hendry is sort of off the hook on this one.
