This is stupid. No-trade clauses have value. Players give up money to get them. Would I have preferred if he had accepted the trade? Yes. But he negotiated that exact right and gave up money to get it. He has every right to use it and it's asinine to get upset at him.

Actually, I don't think he did, but I could be wrong because I hear NO ONE talking about it. For all the shit Hendry gets for giving Lee and Ramirez NTC's, don't they both have them by default as 10/5 guys? Or am I missing something?

Both Lee and Ramirez have full no trade clauses specifically written into their contracts, according to Cot's, Rotoworld and reports when they were signed. As do Zambrano and Fukudome.
Lee is a 10/5 guy now though as well.

Maybe Lee wants to stick around after this year. Nodoby knows what his motives are. I'm think its pretty cool he wants to be a Cub even though we suck. I'd be a little upset if I were an Angels fan though.

Yep. Not to mention the fact that the Angels aren't really contenders to me... why uproot your family, find a new role for a team that is currently 8.5 back.

<!--quoteo-->QUOTE <!--quotec-->Lee to stay in Chicago
HOUSTON (AP)—Chicago Cubs first baseman Derrek Lee(notes) has rejected a trade to the Los Angeles Angels, saying he prefers to finish the season with his team.
Lee says he “really kind of agonized over” the decision, but that he decided the best thing for himself and his family was to stay in Chicago.
The 34-year-old, who has a no-trade clause, also says he plans to play beyond this season and would like to do it with the Cubs.
Cubs manager Lou Piniella says he was “very pleased” to hear that Lee was staying with the team.
Lee is having a tough season, batting just .248 with 11 home runs and 44 RBIs. But his Gold Glove defense would have been a welcome addition to an Angels roster that already has used six players at first base since Kendry Morales(notes) broke his leg jumping on home plate after his walkoff grand slam on May 29. The list includes catcher Mike Napoli(notes) and second baseman Howie Kendrick(notes).
Angels general manager Tony Reagins was not willing to talk about the specifics of any proposed deals.
“I’m not going to comment specifically about any player that’s under contract with another club, but we have and we will continue to consider any move that would strengthen us,” Reagins said. “We’ve inquired over the past months and reached out to several clubs regarding the availability of players on the offensive side that could help us.”<!--QuoteEnd--><!--QuoteEEnd-->

Maybe after all this, Lee gives the Cubs a significant hometown discount on a one-year deal next year.

I'd be fine with that. Some of the talking heads (from unconfirmed sources) on WSCR yesterday were saying that Lee might retire after another season anyway, so maybe that was his plan from the start.

How is Lee's daughter doing? Isn't she seeing a specialist here in the city? That may have something to do with him wanting to stay too.

I wondered if it might be something like that but isn't that Dempster's daughter?

Lee's daughter was misdiagnosed with some degenerative eye disease. I think she's okay now, though.
