WGN No More?
That's very good news.  I was legitimately worried they'd can them and bring in Dempster and some other moron.

Also potentially good news on carriage deals, but I'm concerned that Comcast may hold out for a while.

Quote:A Cubs official estimated that AT&T's accessible platforms already reach 25 percent of the Chicago market plus the potential for more growth.

An industry source said there is momentum toward a Marquee deal with YouTube TV, which has been a presenting sponsor of the 2018 and 2019 World Series and a streaming partner for Major League Baseball. A Cubs spokesman declined to comment on the state of ongoing negotiations with any distributor. McCarthy also declined to comment on Marquees progress with Comcast, the regions dominant cable provider, a former partner with the Cubs and the parent company of NBC Sports Chicago, a direct competitor.

"It's a national deal, but for us to have that kind of concrete carriage (on AT&T) with four months to go is not necessarily what regionals enjoy," McCarthy said. "Sometimes, you're looking at pressure points like Opening Day, or when does the NFL season start, so to have a big percentage of the Chicago market already have access to this network is pretty comforting. And there's many more announcements to come."

I wonder if a deal with YouTube TV would mean you could get Marquee without getting a cable package.

I sure hope so, cause I do not have cable but have mooched a youtube tv subscription off my buddy.

I would prefer that than continue to line Reinsdorf's pockets. Would assume it would be an add-on to a skinny bundle though.

It would be great if you could buy Marquee as a standalone app that could be used on a phone, tablet, Apple TV, Amazon Fire Stick, smart TV, etc. -- similar to the MLB At Bat app.

Pipe dream?

Total guess, but I would imagine if that's going to exist it'll be for those subscribed to some cable/sat provider that caries the channel.  But if it were stand alone and not cable/sat subscription dependent, that would both be cool, and I'd bet something MLB would see to it was only for in-market viewers of the Cubs, so that out of market would still use Extra Innings/MLB TV.

More potentially good news for cord cutters.

Another regional carriage deal for Marquee that covers southern Illinois. Comcast remains the big hold out.

I'm not familiar with Wright, but he can't be any worse than the Kap Man.

I'm holding out hope that Marquee will have an app or something to allow people who are out of market to watch programming other than games through MLB.TV but I doubt it will happen.

This is not some silly theory that's unsupported and deserves being mocked by photos of Xena.  [Image: ITgoyeg.png]

I'm still holding out hope that a flurry of announcements will be made during the Cubs Convention, but this is starting to get annoying.
