WGN No More?
I'm not sure it would have an impact on anything other than those channels.  It seems apparent that the rights-holders have control over in-market streaming (while MLB apparently controls out-of-market).  Of course, Fox already has a deal for in-market streaming on their streaming platforms, so probably no impact.

This is not some silly theory that's unsupported and deserves being mocked by photos of Xena.  [Image: ITgoyeg.png]

As best I can tell, assuming the current in-market streaming deals remain in place, the only teams without a deal for in-market streaming for at least a majority of their games as of 2020 will be the Dodgers, Nationals, Orioles, and Cubs, with the Cubs being a question mark given the new channel.

This, of course, requires having a cable subscription that includes the channel.  I haven't heard much on allowing in-market streaming without the cable subscription, and presumably the RSNs would have a shit-fit at the thought of that.

Sinclair must not have been all that interested in the Kap Man.

Quote:With the clock ticking on a 2020 season debut, TV sources say Marquee has yet to hire a general manager, or much of anyone, really. Its believed Sinclair is leading the hiring for the channel, not the Cubs, and the broadcasting group is well-known for pinching pennies at its regional TV stations. Will Marquee pay up for talent or try to go on the cheap? Its a serious question Ive heard from TV people in town.

Oh man...is this going to be a total clusterfuck?

So.........what guaranteed money did the team get?  Has that been reported and I missed it?  Because that info always seems to come out not long after deals, even the non-straight up rights deals, are announced.

Oh, and it could be they're waiting to close the deal with FOX/Disney for the RSNs perhaps re: hiring?

Always wanted to ask why the Cubs games get the same commercials over and over.

I'm assuming the people watching it live would mute that stuff--otherwise I would think there would have been some homicides we would have heard about.

The commercials are terrible too. About half of them involve death. Thankfully we tend to record the games and skip the commercials or else my 7 year old would become clinically depressed.

Are you talking about the feed on MLB.tv?

I just mean the regular broadcasts.  I never notice if it's NBCSN, WGN, ABC7 or all three, but there's one commercial where a guy is reading a paper announcing the deaths of children that is then re-headlined by commercials' end because...something.  It's on constantly.  There's another where a guy is talking about his friend who was a wonderful person...eventually killed on his bicycle by a motorist.

The MLBTV feed tends to just repeat the same commercial again and again, which would be maddening, but it rarely involves reckless homicide.

When I was a kid it was the Garden Claw.  And then the Garden Claw gold.  I believe they were the Cubs' only advertiser until "save big money Menards" ponied up.

I've never seen that commercial locally, so wonder if it's something that MLB is inserting.

Ahh yes, that and crappy commercials for Corner Gas, Andromeda, and Hercules. Don't want to offend anyone here in case you like those shows...just not my cup of tea.

Can't wait to see Boris Epshteyn's daily sports betting show on Marquee. All bad jokes aside, I'm intrigued by the possibility of streaming deals with Amazon, although this still seems like a longshot.
