Does anybody else remember watching games in the 80s from a few stadiums - I know Montreal was one of them - and the broadcasts always sounded weird? Like Harry was calling the game from inside a tunnel.
Yes. It seemed like most of the broadcasts in Houston, Cincy and Pittsburgh were like that too. Must have been the artificial surfaces or dome effect. That wasn't baseball.
And like Brick, I also remember the Sox night game broadcasts on 44 and later 60 or 66, where everything looked damp and gloomy at all times, as though the lights were dimmed to save money for Reinsdorf and his penny-pinching goons.
</blockquote>
But do you remember the Sox when they were on ONTV/Sportsvision? You had to click a selector to choose between the White Sox or pornography.
No shit.

ONTV squiggly line porn was the best.

Oh, boy. I can't take his horrible impressions, but I guess we are stuck with him for a while on WBBM pre and post game shows.
Quote:Chicago sportscaster Mark Grote emerged from among hundreds of applicants Monday to win the coveted job of pre-game and post-game host for Cubs broadcasts on CBS Radio all-news WBBM AM 780. Hell join Pat Hughes and Ron Coomer as the third member of the radio team this spring.

Not surprisingly, only 2 of the WLS games are weekday night games.
This is not some silly theory that's unsupported and deserves being mocked by photos of Xena.

So, when I got Directv last season, CSN was listed as a channel I should get. But I never seemed to actually get the games when they started, even though I could normally watch the Pre and Post game shows. Now I have been getting all the CSN Spring Training games. Did something change? Will I get regular season games too? I live near Madison, WI, and I guess games were always blacked out for me last year? I don't really get it.

Directv offers as an add on or as part of some packages, an enhanced sports package offering costumers out of market regional sports networks like CSN, but then if you are out of market for those channels, they black out the live sports. There's a good chance that, unfortunately, the spring games are not covered by the blackout rules, and you'll continue to have the regular season games blacked out. Chances are your home market channel is FOX Sports Wisconsin, so you'll get Brewers games not blacked out, and that's it on other regional cable networks, whether you're paying more for them or they're part of your base package. But you never know, worth checking obviously.

Kind of what I figured, although a few years back I could always watch Cubs games at my Mother in Law's place, not that far from here. She also had satellite, don't remember if it was CSN or whatever other Chicago sports channel (not WGN) that showed them before that.

Believe that Ace mentioned the Deadspin article.
Doubt if WGN would go through the trouble of making a new graphic if they retained the Cubs but at least they appeared to have competent proofreaders.

This would be hilarious. Seriously fuck WGN at this point.
Quote:Robert Feder (@robertfeder) writes this morning that the White Sox' radio contract is up for renewal, and WLS and WGN are vying for the rights against the incumbent, WSCR. Like the Cubs' new flagship, WBBM, WSCR is owned by CBS, and Feder says 'BBM's contract with the Cubs would allow them to move the Cubs over to WSCR if The Score can't retain the White Sox.
In other words, come next spring, the Cubs could be on The Score, and the 29th-best baseball broadcasting team on radio could be on WGN.
