There are a lot of us, but I can't find them anywhere. Maybe they just don't go outside. I don't know.

I used to be a PC gamer when I worked in IT. Since I got out and no longer have access to free PC parts to continually upgrade, I just stick to the Xbox now.

Yeah, that's the only thing that sucks about PC gaming: upgrades are expensive. For the price of a top end video card, you could buy an Xbox/PS4 and still have money left over...and that's just one component, which will need upgraded again in a few years if you want to run at max settings. Meanwhile, the console will last you close to 10 years before the next gen comes along.

For those interested, Nintendo will be releasing a trailer at 10am ET tomorrow showing off the first bits of their new console. It's rumored to be a strong portable than can dock to a unit to be played on a tv, then just unplugged and brought with you to play anywhere. If that is the case then I am STOKED. It'd be a portable home console essentially. Getting to play the console Zelda, Mario, Metroid, etc etc....at home, then just unplugging it and playing it anywhere would be awesome. Can't wait to see what it is.

The only thing I worry about is how much graphics power it'll have.

It's running a custom Tegra processor (GPC and CPU are on one chip), so it's a step up from what Nvidia was using on their Shield lineup (where you would stream your PC games to a tablet like device to play them anywhere with wifi). No exact specs yet, but we'll find out soon. My guess is more powerful than the Wii U, but not quite at the Xbox One and PS4 level.

 

Here is a new trailer of the new Zelda, Breath of the Wild. It's a launch game, and it looks pretty damn good (both graphically and gameplay wise).

The thing about the Shield tablets though is the PC is doing the majority of the grunt work while the Shield is basically just streaming a video feed to you, so it doesn't need much power on its own. I'm using this same tech to stream PC games to my iPad via Nvidia Game Stream and it is pretty great.


However, the thing that intrigues me about this new Nintendo is the potential game lineup on a mobile platform. The problem with the iPad is it doesn't have enough quality games of its own (there are a few gems, no doubt, but too much dumb-downed, casual shit in the App Store), so if you want something truly deep, you're kinda screwed unless you have the option to stream stuff from your PC.


Being able to play top-notch games anywhere without needing to stream would be fantastic.


In a perfect world, the dock would amp up the graphics when you're playing on a TV, but I guess that's asking a lot.

Exactly. It also excites me that all the Nintendo first and second party studios will now be focused on one system. No more splitting between the Wii U and 3DS. That's awesome. Same quality games, just a higher volume of them.


It's the perfect complimentary system. No it likely won't get all the heavy duty multi platform games (unless it really takes off), but let's face it: you don't really buy a Nintendo system for non Nintendo exclusive games.
