2021 Team
Quote:The team that gives me hope is the Giants. They're going to be at 105-108 regular season wins in a division with the Dodgers and Padres. They were projected to be an under .500 team. It won't happen for us, but still. Plus maybe all the Brewers' pitchers will punch walls and their dominance will dissipate.

The Giants have been a pretty well run team for a long while now. I don't think what's happening is an accident or happenstance, it's surprising the dominance they've shown but that organization knows what they're doing.

And I really, really hate it.

Successful in odd years, yes, but they've been boom or bust for most of the last 10-15 years. That gives me some hope, but the more I look at the Cubs organization as a whole, I'm struggling to see how this WON'T be a long rebuild. Contending in 2022 looks extremely unlikely, and if our minor leagues suffer through another forgettable developmental year like this past season, it's difficult to imagine what that path forward will look like short of going nuts in the free agent market (not happening).

I wouldnt say its been forgettable developmentally this season. At AAA level definitely apart from Brennan Davis who looks like the real deal. But at the lower levels its absolutely stacked. Triantos, Caissie, Alcantara, Crow-Armstrong, Preciado, Hernandez, Made. Howard didnt light the fire with his bat at the start but his defence is probably the best out of anyone in a crowded middle infield.

Pitching looks hell of a lot better with potential aces in Marquez and Hetz, safe 2-3 pitcher in Wicks and potential in Killian & Jensen. Franklin was injured all season and scouts say his stuff is the best out of anyone.

But I get what youre saying and its going to be a long rebuild for sure as its years before we see most of these guys.

I guess the broad observation is that without the deadline (and Darvish) trades, this minor league system would be going mostly backwards. Recent drafts have improved under Kantrovitz, but the player development aspect of the Cubs organizational infrastructure still has a ways to go to prove that it's capable of pumping out useful talent on a consistent basis.

Coaching staff is finally being revamped. Both Borzello and Iapoce will not return next season.

Maybe, just maybe its not the hitting coach thats the problem? ?

Super thrilled that this organization's primary concern seems to be locking up Ross to a long term deal.  Let's make sure he gets paid!

It doesn't seem that long ago that I had so much confidence in the decision making of this organization.

Maybe i'm looking too deeply into it, but this unending loyalty to David Ross is so odd to me.

It's a little bit weird.

Maybe Jed should focus more on hiring the right GM before saddling him with a glorified mascot.

Serious question from someone who didn't watch nearly as many games as you all: how has Ross proven to be a bad manager?

One dick can poke an eye out. A hundred dicks can move mountains.

Have you ever heard Ross say something negative about ownership? Nope. And he rarely says negative comments about the front office so he gets the early extension or at least an extension gets mentioned for him prior to players or free agent signings

Oh, I dont think he's a bad manager necessarily.  I just dont understand why they were determined to hire him in the first place and now why he's the primary target for a long term extension.  Quite frankly I don't have a strong connection with him like i did with Joe.  He's kind of just there for me and bit of a hokey character.

Maybe it's related to what Ivy said, who knows.
