Milton Bradley and Cubs agree to deal?
QUOTE (rok @ Feb 28 2009, 02:14 PM) <{POST_SNAPBACK}>Fuk and Hoff will be Bradley's replacements when he's hurt.
I think rok was subliminally telling me to "Fuk Hoff" with that last post.

Anyway, there's a 75% chance Hoff won't make the team (especially if Koskie or some other infield utility guy makes the 25-man), and on any given day, Fuk will likely be in CF.
Yes, Reed J. will occasionally get some time out there in RF, but against certain teams/pitchers, you KNOW Lou is gonna start Gathright...probably every time the other team throws a right-handed pitcher, which is 75% of the time.
Think Lou is going to ignore the platoon advantage, just cuz Gathright can't hit too well? Get serious.

Our RFer is named Bradley/Gathright.

You guys are all missing the point. That last quote is fucking great. I should've just posted that.

I think Hoff's going to make the team. He's hitting too well to leave him off.

Joey Gathright is not going to play in RF much if at all. He's played 1 game there in his entire career. If Bradley's not playing RF, it's going to be Fuk in RF and Reed in CF.

I just can't envision a situation where a weak hitter like Gathright ends up anywhere near RF, even for spot starts. Lou loves Hoff (despite his defensive deficiencies), and the way he's hitting, it's going to be hard to leave him off the roster. And Fuk is gonna get plenty of time between CF and RF as well, whether we like it or not, so the numbers just don't add up for me as to how a 5th/6th OF like Gathright would get the nod in RF over better options.

Order of players that will be on the Opening Day roster likely to play RF:

Bradley
Fukudome
Johnson
Hoffpauir
Miles
Gathright

Even if Gathright's sole role is to be our 3rd CFer, we're not looking too good when Bradley goes down. Having Reed J. and Fuk as starters at positions where big offense is expected doesn't bode well for us.

I hope Hoff makes the team. I like his bat.

We scored runs last year in spite of, not because of those two. There's a difference.

In the 2nd half of the season, after Fuk had a go-around of the NL, here's how he hit:
.217/.314/.326
OPS-639
Doesn't bode well. I'd rather have Hoffpower (sic) out there.
(FWIW, Reed J. kicked ass in the 2nd half last year).

Reed was very good all season long and Fuk was one of the best hitters in the league the first two months of the season. I think he'll be somewhere in between that guy and the 2nd half Fuk this year. We'll be just fine if they're playing out there a lot.

1. Soriano
2. Fontenot
3. Lee
4. Bradley
5. Ramirez
6. Soto
7. Fukudome
8. Reed

That's still a damn good lineup.

Edit: I'm a dumbass, obviously Bradley wouldn't be in there.

You mean that lineup, aside from substituting Fontenot for DeRosa will be exactly the same lineup that helped us win almost 100 games year? I can see why we're fucked . . .

Yeah, Jim Edmonds did absolutely nothing for us last year. That .568 slugging %, best on the team? An optical illusion.
And Mark DeRosa? He sucked.
So yeah, Ruby's right.
