Quote:I'm not sure baseball fans should ever claim football, either college or NFL is boring. And I say that as a big baseball fan.
Why? There is always action in baseball. There is drama in almost every pitch. At least to me. And there is just as much scoring in baseball as there is in football. Football is very little action and a whole lot of replays and timeouts and regrouping to me.
Again -- I know I'm in the minority on this and I'm not trying to change any minds. But football fans telling baseball fans that baseball is boring is just as insane to me as it is to football fans hearing the same from baseball fans. Matter of preference, I suppose.

I'm kind of with George Carlin on the Football/Baseball thing.
I like that baseball isn't constantly adrenalized and bound by the clock. I like that I can take my attention off the field between pitches. I like that I have time to appreciate the defensive positioning, consider the implications of possible outcomes. The things that many call "boring" make up some of the very best aspects of watching baseball.

Agreed. There's a rhythm and a flow to baseball that, while not always exciting, is something the other sports can't replicate. Time-based sports are frustrating to watch at times because most of the time is wasted and what little action do you have is mostly a series of fits and starts. Football and basketball can be really fun when there is actual drama involved, but too much action in spots can end up like watching a ping-pong game. Too much randomness.

Quote:The baseball season is just too long. It needs to end before football starts. Play 82 games. All of the season records are already tainted anyway. I'm a diehard fan and I guarantee you once football starts up, it will take the majority of my free-time. Make up the extra revenues for the owners with a salary cap. League minumum is cut in half, cause you're playing half as long. Players union will never go for it, but you could argue player safety.
And you get to adjust your batting order so in the bottom of the ninth, no matter what, you're 1-2-3 hitters start off the inning.
All pro seasons are too long; for us, for the players, for their families, for their health.
But I'll bet vB changes his fall sports habit in'15 and beyond. What are you going to watch; the Seahawks or the Series?

I love listening to baseball on the radio (doesn't hurt that Pat Hughes is just awesome), allows me to follow along with the game and do other things at the same time.

Oakland catcher Jaso out with (second in a year) cconcussion. G. Soto to Oakland from Texas for cash. I'm following partly because A's late season trouble means less wear and tear (and cost?) for some potential off-season arm acquisions. Still rooting for them, though. Esp. the Shark-Geo battery.

This is not some silly theory that's unsupported and deserves being mocked by photos of Xena.

You stay classy dude. Let the woman take the beating...
I like how the guy a few rows up has absolutely no bat awareness skills. Ducks right into the path of the bat.

Hearing Mariners C Jesus Montero, on rehab assignment with Everett in Boise, went into stands after Mariners scout with a bat. What?
@SteveMims_RG

Talked to guy in Boise tonight, said Montero threw ice cream on Mariners crosschecker, spit on him and threatened with a bat in front row.

Everett coach had to drag him out of the stands. Montero was there on rehab. Was first base coach tonight, but was supposed to play Friday.
What the hell

Quote:Montero was coaching first base, and at the end of an inning, the unidentified cross-checker yelled at him to hustle off the field, according to Boise official scorer Liza Safford. Montero then headed to the AquaSox dugout on the third-base side.

According to a game offical, the cross-checker then ordered an ice cream sandwich and had it sent to Montero in the dugout, escalating the confrontation further. The official said Montero -- who arrived at Mariners Spring Training 40 pounds overweight this season -- approached the stands with a bat while screaming profanities and threw the sandwich at the cross-checker. Montero had to be pulled back from the stands by Everett pitching coach Nasusel Cabrera, Safford said.

Quote:The White Sox are preparing to make a run at Tigers DH Victor Martinez in free agency, Bruce Levine of 670TheScore.com reports on Twitter. Martinez, 35, is playing out the final year of the four-year, $50MM pact he signed to join Detroit before the 2011 season.
Chicago will have an opening for a veteran slugger with both Adam Dunn and Paul Konerko playing on expiring contracts. The pair has split duties at the DH position this year, but the switch-hitting Martinez would presumably occupy the role with just one roster spot. Of course, Dunn also provides something of a cautionary tale. He posted a .731 OPS over four years with the White Sox, which actually fell slightly below league average, making his $56MM deal a devastatingly poor investment given his lack of defensive flexibility.
Interesting that they are prioritizing (aging) offense over pitching. One was a strength and the offer a weakness in 2014. Guess which was which?
