We all sold our souls for 2016 and now we're paying up.

Nope 

Cubs tanked at historical rates from 2011-2014 to revamp and build a roster to compete.  Those teams averaged over 94 losses a year over 4 years.  Selling souls had nothing to do with development of that roster adding in Lester, Lackey, Heyward, Ross, Fowler, etc to the combination of high draft picks and players from white flag trades - Arrieta, Hendricks, etc. ensured success layers

The 2027 lockout is going to be beyond nasty. Owners are prepared for a prolonged war to break the players union.

Paying former players to be ambassadors to carry their message to current players is a traditional union breaking move which they have been deploying
