This might not be fair, but I'm getting Hector Neris vibes from Eli Morgan. Low ERA, but doesn't miss a lot of bats. Fastball sits in the lower-90s. Unsustainable BABIP. Jed seems drawn to this type of pitcher for some reason. I hope it works out and his success last year wasn't smoke and mirrors.

Jed is usually drawn to the bargain basement and slight used/abused bin for bullpen options. Neris seemed like he was a higher priced solution last season. Nope. Cost the Cubs a number of early season wins last year but saved them cash and bullpen became a strength by end of season

Guessing that Cubs bench will replace Tauchman with some combination of rookies - Alcantara, Canario, Cassie, etc.
Tauchman outperformed expectations in 2023 but OK 2024 when healthy. He provided not only insurance but spark at times for club. Move won’t change anyone’s expectations for club Replacing veteran bench with prospects is not the sign of a win now team but roster has prospects and seemingly budget restrictions Still hoping for a trades to improve roster for next season

I like Tauchman. He always gave you a quality AB. Took lots of pitches, fouled off lots of pitches, came through in the clutch pretty frequently. I can't imagine he would've been expensive to bring back.

Maybe my mind is playing tricks on me but seems like when the Cubs were relevant, back in the days of Theo, the Cubs developed a plan, implemented it and had the vast majority of free agent cash and signings done for January.
Guess when you’re with dumpster diving Jed, you need to wait till the dumpster fills with rejects and the coyotes pick off the digestible scraps so the remnants are ready for Cubs to eat

If Angelo had picked McClellin, I would have been expecting to hear by training camp that kid has stage 4 cancer, is actually 5'2" 142 lbs, is a chick who played in a 7 - 0 defensive scheme who only rotated in on downs which were 3 and 34 yds + so is not expecting to play a down in the NFL until the sex change is complete and she puts on another 100 lbs. + but this is Emery's first pick so he'll get a pass with a bit of questioning. - 1060Ivy

Cubs sign Boyd to 2 yr $29 MM deal. He pitched for Guardians after recovery from Tommy John surgery going 2-2 with a 2.72 ERA in 8 starts and 1 earned run over 3 starts 11 2/3 innings in playoffs eight starts.
He’s a relatively cheap lefty starter that pitched outstandingly last season but is 34 starting next season with a career 4.85 ERA and 46-69 record. Clearly Boyd is a Jed dumpster dive special. Maybe he’s finally figured something out and will continue Cy Young-esque performances for next couple seasons.
